Win 94 Scout rifle?

Gonna turn my Win 94 into a scout rifle, using XS lever scout mount. Is a Leupold 2X EER scope adiquit(sp?)? Is a 30/30 good enough for use as a scout rifle?

I had to shim my scope to get it to hit where I was aiming. I haven't shot any game with it yet. But it comes to point real well.

It's a "maybe" on an EER scope, because YOUR personal ergonomics (physical fit to the rifle/scope combo) may or may not work with a particular scope's eye relief / "window".

The relationships will change, with different rifles (different receiver lengths), different scopes (different specifications), and different shooters (different physical characteristics)
An improper relationship, or marriage of the above, will return a less than satisfactory shooting result.

Leupold specifies that the optimal sight picture is with it's Extended Eye Relief of 18" - and in my experience, any distance more or less from the eye will result in less than a full sight picture - almost fully blacked-out in some instances.

Other handgun scope makers offer scopes with optimal eye relief "windows", say 9" to 17", or 11" to 21", etc, etc.

Anyone contemplating the use of a pistol scope in the scout position would be well advised to do a little homework first - instead of buying/trying/selling 3 or 4 scopes before finging out exactly what is suitable for their own situation.

I would advise you to hold the rifle in firing position, with a dummy of the XS LeverScout mount (the gold standard BTW) in position, and have a companion measure the distance from your eye to where the rear lens of the scope (in the scout postion) would be mounted. YMMV from anybody else's.
The measurement may be 9", 11", 13" - whatever, depending upon how YOU hold the rifle, YOUR neck length, and YOUR fullness of face.

Use whatever the measurement turns out to be, for comparison with a prospective scope technical specifications for eye relief - and let that be your guide for a scope purchase.

FYI - I did it the hard way, buying/trying/etc a Burris Scout scope, a Leupold Scout scope, and a Weaver 2-7x28 pistol scope, before finalizing on a Weaver 2x28 Pistol scope that fits ME & the particular rifle it's on (a Marlin 1894).

As I mentioned already, I've got a 2X EER scope in hand, so might see if it works with the XS Scout mount, and since I have the Leupold Scout Scope on (back)order from Midway, I just might turn my 1894c into a Scout Rifle also.
