Danny that's the target out in the middle of Al Lee's yearling pasture, just north of Forsyth. Also known as the Quigley shoot.
The buffalo is off to the left of that and is 789 yds.

I'd love to try that, but danged if I can see what you're talking about....I even blew the picture up and looked at it on my 52" TV and still can't see it....unless you are talking about the big black looking thing off to the far left of the picture.

You need to limber up one of your bigbore levers , and try the Quigley sometime. They do have a seperate class for leverguns.

P.s. The Sagebrush shoot at the Alliance Rifle Clubs Hoffland range , 10 miles east of Alliance Ne. is coming in August. Seperate levergun class for both the long range and the Buffalo Match, but be on your best shooting days, cuz if those guys from Minnesota and Wisconsin show with their 86's again........ It takes some doins to out shoot those two.

I'd love to try! My poor man's single shot, original Springfield 1888 can put five 500 grain cast bullets into 1" at 100 yards, so the rifle has the potential ..... whether the shooter does or not is another question. I just visited the Shiloh site yesterday and built a gun just the way I would like it. The total cost was a dose of reality that got me looking up at my Springfield on the wall with a new appreciation.

True story:

About 30 years ago, my dad and I went out one Sunday morning to hunt deer. I had recently bought my first CF lever, a marlin in .357. It was loaded with .155gr silvertip factory ammo.

Our morning watch had been blown by some other hunters marching through, so we headed on toward another spot at maybe 9am.

He says, being wise, "See if ya can whack that "Stop" sign at the end of the road" (This was way out in the boonies, and ya could hear a car for a long ways if their was one, and it was dead quiet, so I knew nobody was around), and like a smartie pants, I dropped a shot at the sign, (holding about 10 feet high) climbed back in the truck and we drove down there (about 300 yards we figured, as the odometer in the truck clicked past 1/10 of a mile, and not quite a second 1/10th.). on the way to the sign I said "The hole is gonna be right in the O" with a great flourish, like I really expected it to be there.

And so it was, about 1 1/2" low, slightly to the right. Not a hole exactly, but a deep dent, almost through, and the paint freshly knocked off. Of course I was as stunned as he was, but tried not to let on.

Dad musta told that story about 1000 times before he passed. He always ened it with, "Well, the bullet had to go SOMEWHERE".

I'm still not gonna try that target above with anything I got today, at least not with irons, and not offhand

That's why I never patched the .444 Marlin holes in my 100 yard gong - if I 'miss' it, I can just say it went through one of the holes.

Piece of cake hitting beer can sized targets out to that range,,,,,,,,but, only with one of my .257's and a Sako 300 mag It would take a bit of trial and error with the leverguns, and then only occasional hits, but a couple of ranging shots with the Hi-Wall 40-82 will lobb in there!----------Sixgun

Kirk the guy that won the trapdoor class of the Quigley this year scored 39 out of 48. Lots of folks ooin and awin about that. Winning score for the whole deal was 42.

Homwfront lots of folks shoot that match with 38-55's of various flavors. 375 bore diamater is the minimum allowed.

I used to practice with propane torch tanks at 300 yards, need a hollow point for them to explode. My brother goes to me "lets move up close and shoot them with pistols", I said start walking I'll go back and call 911. He got the point

David you'ld be surprised how easy it is to miss that 6ft thing. The way it sits up there on that side hill there's some funny little winds come zipping around and throws bullets helterskelter.

Seems the 'ole Trapdoor did mighty fine at the Sandy Hook trials too, they ought to work good at stop sign bong'n at that short a distance.

OTH, Kirk, there's quite a contingent of trapdoor shooters there at the Quigley. To compete in the trapdoor class the rifle must be an original. Some really fine ol rifles and folks that know how to make em talk are to be found there.
Kirk there's usually quite a contingent of our friends from north of the border there, so comeon down.!

Griff watch your schedule, If you're in this vicinity the weekend of August 22 your sharps will come in very handy at the Sagebrush shoot at Alliance Ne.
they have a trapdoor class at that shoot also.

Here's a sample of the targets at Alliance.
The buff, is 800,bear 970 and are the longest targets of the Buffalo Match on Sunday.
The Square is 1000 yds and is the longest target of the longrange on Saturday, also shot on Saturday is the 700 yd circle,800 yd circle, and 900 yd diamond.
