410 marlin lever rifle and 45 colt

Post by kemosabi45 »

The 410 Lever rifle sounds intresting but the 410 slug is a little light to me.
Has anyone tried shooting a 45LC in a marlin or winchester 410 lever rifle? What happens? My guess is that the bullet would tumble.
Do they make a rifled choke tube for a 410?
Does anyone use a 410 lever rifle at all?

Not doable. A true .410 shotty has a... .410-.413 bore. Trying to run a .452 bullet down it = bad mojo.

The .410/.45 combo guns you read about have .45x bores - so they are overbore for the .410 and utterly useless for the .410 slug.

I've got an original 1929 Model .410 Marlin lever, but would never use .410 slugs in it, or .45 Colt either!
Why not just buy a Model 1894 Marlin in .45 Colt if you want to shoot .45 Colt?

Supposedly you can use .410 shells in a 444 Marlin safely, and obviously the .444 Marlin has plenty of 'slug' power when you want a solid projectile.

The only .45/410 combo gun I had was HORRIBLY inaccurate (maybe 12" groups at 25 yards, literally - off a bench!) with .45 Colts of all sorts of bullet types and velocities.

I have one also and .410 slugs 2&1/2 inch work just fine!

It has little value to hunters just like the Win mod 42,but fills the valuable likes just the well!

I surely hope not.

What happens? My guess is that the bullet would tumble.
It would probably start tumbling right after the barrel separated into several pieces.

A 410's bore is pretty much .410"

A 45colt bullet is about .452"

Never shoot 45colt out of a .410 barrel !!!!!

Do they make a rifled choke tube for a 410?
The later version Winchester 9410 used chokes

Does anyone use a 410 lever rifle at all?
I have one I use for turkey, rabbit, squirrel, armadillos, etc...
