OT-EBR madness about over?

Post by jnyork »

Yesterday went to the Rock Springs WY gunshow. Many, many EBR's available starting at $1000.00 and going up to about $1600.00. Very few people even looking and only saw one go out. This is the third gunshow in the last 6 weeks I have been to and observed the same situation. I think maybe most of the folks who wanted one have now got one and the speculators buying truckloads are maybe starting to sweat a little. Also seems to be plenty of EBR ammo for sale about everywhere, a little expensive but still there, again I did not see any flying out the door.

At the gun show in Little Rock Saturday there were plenty of them and the prices seemed to be dropping some. The ammo supplies were better than the last one and reloading supplies are starting to show back up. I saw the first primers for sale that I had sen since late summer last year. They are still a little high at $45 per 1000 I left mine there for someone who needs them worse than me.

I sort of get the sense that the price tide may be ebbing, too. The local gun 'n' pawn has sold quite a few in the past few months, and are still selling them at a pretty good, albeit somewhat slowed, clip. They are telling me that several rifles that were in the $1800 range a couple of months ago are now coming in cheaper and going out the door at around $1600, while several manufacturers have started turning out more plain-Jane models in the sub-$1000 range. Seems like the makers may be responding to the market with increased production and more lower-priced models as well.

I see a ton of them on my dealer's shelves now too.

I joined the fray. I have had a standard AR-A2 style for a decade or more, but i figured i had better get a flat top optics ready model for the future.
Most of 'em shoot pretty well, and i enjoy shooting them --- but now that i have a couple, they just dont give me much of a charge (outside of the range that is) --- I can't envision myself sitting in my easy chair by the fire looking down at my M-4 copy and smiling like i do with my Python or my dad's old Model 94 big ring. They are just "ride 'em hard and put 'em away wet" range toys for me. I am back to daydreaming about Single Action Army's, 1895's and heavy caliber single shots

I suspect some others feel the same way, but more than likely, everyone who really wanted one has purchased one by now and the sales will slow to a trickle. I dont see prices on the rifles themselves ever really going down --- they are expensive little monkeys. I remember looking at an AR with my dad in 1986, and it was $750 back then
But, some real deals can probably be had on lightly used range toys in the next couple of years. If i ever see a 6940 Colt for less than 15 or 1600, i may be persuaded to add another one to the safe though---- but i'd sell my DPMS to go towards it.

Well, I ain't got one, just have to depend on my M1 carbine :D I was in a little gun shop yesterday afternoon and they probably had 25-30 on the rack. Still not a lot of handgun ammo though, no .380, very little 38spec and 9mm.

Did get to handle the new Ruger LCR though, sweet trigger sure 'nough and light, seemed a bit large to me. They will fit most j frame holsters though so maybe its just me.

Yep, I see them now in the candy stores on the shelves as well, and at reasonable prices. Last gun show I was at was in February, and you couldn't get near a table that had EBR's. Six deep and everyone buying!

I was at the Harrisburg Pa gunshow on Sat and I didn't see much in the way of gun sales at all. Lots of lookers but very few takers according to a couple of dealer/friends. Lots of ammo but $229.99 for 500 .223 RELOADS!! yeah right! I didn't buy anything all day(was on the way to get some racecar stuff after the show) but a guy here at work said it was a buying day on Sunday, he and his son both bought rifles.(NOT EBR's). As an aside I have a EBR and two Evil brown Rifles, one with clips and one with mags. You figure it out.Have a great day guys. Tom

I have an evil SKS...A nice Russian one that was rebuilt at the armory and looks and shoots new. I'd like to put it in a nice lightweight stock and get a good red dot mounted. But not at todays ammo prices. If the price on KommieKiller ammo don't come down, I'll sell it.

It's not a particular accurate rifle, but, not really shooting it on paper, I say I don't have too much problem hitting pop cans at fifty yds (but, not everytime, at that  ) That cheapo Wolf ammo could be the problem, too.....

Local dealers are flush with EBRs, and yes, there's a good many signs of willingness to deal on their inventory.

Many of the local dealers are not willing to take EBRs on trade right now. Some dealers told me that there are folks that panic-bought EBRs using plastic in Feb-Apr that are bringing the EBRs in to see for cash $$$ to pay bills in June. And the dealers aren't buying, because they are flush with inventory.

The dealers all lament not having the ammo to sell to shoot in the EBRs, because that's all that anyone wants to buy. Some dealers have the ammo, but nobody is paying $450 a case for 1000 rds of 223.

Ceb,
Mine is an accurate little bugger, everyone who has shot has been surprised at how well it shoots.
I would say do the normal checks.

I'll stick with my CAR's. I had enough of a M16 during my Air Force days as a security specialist guarding E3A's.
