OT- A Good Read

I heard the author on daytime talk radio who wrote the book "One Second After" by William Forstchen. It is a novel which I don't often read myself, but he writes it as though several EMP devices were set off to destroy the all electronics in the U.S. It covers the time after the event and how people in his area of N.C. had to cope with it.
In our house, my son grabbed it first when it came in, then my wife ( who is the one I really wanted to read it) and now I'm almost done. You have to consider how you would live using 1890's technology, if you still have any of it around.

I read it. It's good. Similar scenario to halffast's " Lights Out" online book. The two make good companion stories, covering different aspects. http://survivalmonkey.com/SF%20books/Li ... urrent.pdf

I have Browning B92s in 357 and 44, a Winchester 1895 in 30-06, two Browning 1886s in 45-70, and a mess of Marlin 1894s and 1895s.

I'd do OK.

Living within fairly close proximity to two nuclear power plants, and near the second largest financial center in the country, I'm not sure I'd get a chance to find out!

You have to consider how you would live using 1890's technology, if you still have any of it around.

I know myself that about 4 years ago when we had one of our hurricanes blow through and knock out the power for a week I made a discovery at that time. The only thing that separates our standard of living from that of any dirt would country you'd like to name is that thin copper strand that goes around from pole to pole.

Qwerty is older than that I think. Like 1870s.
I've tried the Dvorak, but have a real hard time with it.
