Go rent GRAN TORINO!!! Do it NOW !!!
Best darned movie I've seen in a while! Hell, my wife even liked it! I think she even took the stick out of her butt.
Only thing I could find to pick at was that Clint's 1911 wasn't a GI model; I think it was one of the newer pimped out Para Ordnance models.

Looking forward to seeing this one. Missed it in the theaters. Y2K (11 years old) wants to see it as well. Is it okay for him?

I'd swear that Clint Eastwood used my Dad to develop his character for this movie.
If you are raising your son PC or "sensitive" and don't want him to hear the language a Korean War vet uses to express himself about the world around him, you might not want to expose him.
If on the other hand, you don't mind that he sees a characterization of what real men used to be like, go for it.
It's a great movie.

Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.
History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

I saw it in the theatre, and will order it on DVD soon.
I thought it was one of his best, addresses some of today's problems, but was mostly a portrait of a good man.

Oh yeah, that describes me to a "T".FWiedner wrote: If you are raising your son PC or "sensitive"...
He'll see it. I don't worry so much about him hearing the language; it's the repeating it that gets his Mother upset, and me in the doghouse!
As I've told him though, if he does this and I get in trouble there will be no more such movies for him for a very long time. Seems to be working!
Re: Go rent GRAN TORINO!!! Do it NOW !!!
I just saw it last night. I must admit to a different opinion. While it was an OK movie, I didn't think the acting or plot was very good. Clint had some good moments, but he often just tried to carry a scene with his presence, not his actiing; ...and his presence isn't what it used to be. It's a good thing this is his last movie. The boy he befirends is nondescript (except for a few good moments like the barbershop scene), and his acting appears forced -- at times as if he's overwhelmed , at times as if he's trying too hard. The plot is jerky, disconnected and unrealistic (e.g., portrayal of the priest and the police, gang actions, his estranged family, etc.). There aren't any memorable scenes or lines. The movie was just...forgettable.
All in all, I'm glad I rented it and not bought it..

It's a good movie but the story line is totally unrealistic.
Yeah, I'd like to see some White Guy move into East LA and pull that stuff. The local gang would kill him in a New York Minute.

Probably because it actually was Clint's 1911. Or maybe he actually carries that big magnum around with him.Clint's 1911 wasn't a GI model; I think it was one of the newer pimped out Para Ordnance models.
Not his best movie, and I agree it was a little unrealistic and contrived. But you have to give him some slack--it's his exit nod to the audience.
Don't knock the sensitive "romance" films. For example, "Out of Africa" has some of the greatest hunting scenes ever filmed, and more doubleguns than can easily be counted. Even "Brokeback Mountain" had a Win 94 in it.I'm sure you can forget it if you watch your own personal copy of "The Princess Bride" or "Boys don't cry."

Wouldn't call "Princess Bride" a romance film... and it has some of the best lines in all moviedom..
"My name is Inego Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die..."
"To the Pain!"

INCONTHEIVABLE!
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means. ...
Ha ha! You fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! The most famous is never get involved in a land war in Asia, but only slightly less well-known is this: never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha... (urk!)

Way out of line, unfair to the poster, offensive. I've heard much stronger insults as a cop and soldier, but do we need them on this forum?
