OT- Who likes a good Bloody Mary?
Am I the only fella who likes this mixed drink? I have drank them for years, but most people I talk to find them disgusting. Anyone have a really good homemeade recipe?
I like Bloody Marys. Too much.
I once got an acid rash from drinking so many.
I like them made with V-8 versus tomato juice. Lots of worcestershire.
And horseradish.

I have never had any luck making them from scratch. I have purchased every mix out there with the same result- yuck! For the longest time I had resigned myself to the idea that I'd have to go to a restaurant or tavern to get a decent one, and even that was a gamble. Sometimes the ones they made were downright awful. Luckily one day I stopped by the local mom and pop liquor store and they pointed me to this:

This is far and away the best mix that can be purchased.
Here is how I make mine-
Plenty of ice
1 part vodka
3 parts mix
Tobasco to taste
couple dashes of celery seed
2 olives and a splash of olive juice
I may have to buy some ingredients tonight:)

Take a mostly nekkid sweety, a warm sun-shiney day, throw in some privacy, and stir.

They make a great eye opener first thing in the morning, but of course then the rest of the day is pretty much shot. I like mine made with either spicy V-8 or Snapppy Tom with a dash of A-1 or Worcestershire and celery salt. Fresh grated horseradish will put it over the top. Sometimes, just a smidgen of clam juice will give it a nice touch. I always use nothing but Stolli's.
If you can see the big picture, you are not focusing on your front sight.

The thought of the drink would turn off any sort of romantic notions that would be present.

Bloody Mary (Or, skip the vodka and have a Virgin Mary)
20 oz. glass filled with ice.
3 shots of decent vodka, NOT Mr Boston
6 oz. Clamato, (Yep, it's clam-tomato juice,)
2 Tsp. Worcestershire sauce
dash salt, dash pepper
2 Tsp Horseradish
Lemon wedge
celery stalk
Tobasco sauce, or if you want it sweeter, Pickapepper sauce
pinch celery salt.
-more vodka
In a tall glass, add everything except the vodka, lemon and celery.
Mix well.
Squeeze the lemon wedge over ice in a 20 oz. glass, (not the one you mixed in,) pour vodka in and then add the mix.
Stir with celery stalk, then add more vodka on top, (a splash).
Stir again.
-Drink those DTs away.
I have made this for a lot of folks over the years, and it's always a big hit.
People will drink it, smile, and then stare incredulously at the Clamato bottle on the counter.
Ha ha...
It really is good though.

Bloody Mary
I use regular tomato juice, 2 to 1 with good vodka. Tabasco sauce, horseradish, a bit of lemon juice, ground (freshly) black pepper, worcestershire sauce and just a touch of salt. Garnish with crisp celery. Also, they can be mixed en masse and left to blend in the refrigerator, always chill the vodka and tomato juice prior, at a minimum...and serve over ice.

They are good for Breakfast...
I prefer mine with Gin. Some call it a Bloody Ceaser, dunno why.

Spent one summer at the beach working on, and perfecting, any number of receipes. The ingredients can vary, same with the amounts. But I can tell you that the secret ingredients are clam juice (as someone already said) and beef bullion. BTW, I like mine nice and chewy with plenty of horseradish and cracked pepper.
Any number of hot sauces will work, Worchestershire, lime/lemon, bacon bits, etc. Just don't forget the two above.
