OT---RKRODLE is right, Dr. Pepper makes good marinade

Post by piller »

Sunday Evening I put some meat from the Hondo hunt to soak overnight in Dr. Pepper. The taste after grilling was great. Some of the best meat I ever ate. I recommend it.

The acid breads down the meat to tenderize it and the 23 flavors soak into it leaving a tasty sugar impregnated steak. Piller - I told you the Oryx was the best tasting beast!

What 86er said is right. The meat was tenderized by the acid breaking it down, and those flavors and the sugar were great. It really tasted like top quality beef, but a little better. I just put the steaks into a large glass bowl, covered them with Dr. Pepper, covered it all with Saran Wrap, and put it in the fridge overnight. Before grilling, I just poured off the juices/Dr. Pepper and then on the grill they went. It was great.

One night 37 years ago, I was desperately thirsty and drank a bottle of Dr. Pepper. I have never been that desperate since. I'd marinate meat in ginger ale before I'd allow Dr. Pepper in my house. BLECCH!!!

Down here in the Tidewater area of VA. deer season in the swamp starts in October time frame and due to the heat and chasen with dogs all the meat we take is soak alot,,

We buy the cheap liters of Coke and soak it for a day or so,,does the same thing as Dr.Pepper.

Wrap it with bacon and slow roast or grill it.
