W00T! Homebuilt 12ga AR-15-upper

Derek writes:

I have designed and patents pending on this.. Its a beltfed 12 gauge upper receiver for a ar-15 or m16 lower receiver. It uses your lower receiver, so if you have a ar15 its a semi auto shotgun, however if you have a registered m16 lower or a drop in auto sear it becomes a full auto 12 gauge machine gun. This is a prototype model and all the bugs arent worked out quite yet. Most of the problems that I have encountered revolve around the shotgun sheels not being consistent enough to eject sometimes.

Looks like he's got a Class III (If he doesn't, and posted that, he's too stupid for words), so all he needs is the AOW update/maker stamp to work on the prototype...

With the short barrel he's got on it it would certainly fit into the AOW class, but during prototyping that's not quite as important... so long as you told the BATFE what you were wanting to build on your Class III platform

It's an interesting question how they would classify it once it's past prototyping because as long as it has a legal shotty barrel it's just a belt-fed semi-auto shotgun upper. Probably still an AOW (street sweeper?) but an interesting question none the less.

I hope he's got Len Savage on speed dial...

Who's being wet? I think it's a cool item... and I think he can/will/is getting away with it or he would have been in shackels/body bag 15 minutes after posting that vid...

Now that is cool. If he ggets the bugs worked out he should take it up to the DOD. That would be pretty handy in house to house Ops.

I think the AC9 would be better for that.

A belt fed 12ga would be better on a tripod... an aimable claymore...

We had a film clip on here not that long ago of that new full auto twelve gauge, drum fed with all the different HE and such rounds...now, THAT was where it's happening. That belt makes it a fixed position weapon, unless you're Rambo shooting a M60 one handed and feeding the belt with the other

What would really be cooool is to see it feed, shoot, and eject All Brass shells.

For CAS/SASS matches I reload & shoot all brass 16 ga. shells in my Winchester 97 shotgun. I use smokless powder & plastic shotcup wads. What a hoot! They feed & eject much better than plastic shells. I can see why the Military used the brass over the paper & plastic shells.

This kind of thinking is what got full auto removed from the M-16/M-4 battle rifle and a 3 shot burst in it's place. The idiots shot up all their ammo and became targets.
