Cramer reloading tools?

Post by 2ndovc »

After SIX years of looking through my stuff from the last move. I finally found my missing
reloading stuff.
I built the new house and moved my, at the time girlfriend, now wife and two boys
in with me. LOTS of stuff.
I was cleaning out a corner of the basement and I found a couple of boxes that I haven't seen
since I packed up the old place.
In these boxes were the bullet molds and small lee furnace that
were my Grandfather's.

I've never done any casting so these weren't a priority at the time.

I spent some time cleaning them up thinking they were Lyman molds
but couldn't find any markings.
On the Sprue cutter they are marked Cramer 55a and the other is
Cramer 57.
Both are .257 RN GC
I have boxes of bullets that he cast from these molds and am thrilled that I
found them along with the sizer that's also a Cramer.

Anyone ever heard of Cramer relading tools?

Yes, Cramer was a well regarded mold maker; currently there are several threads on the http://castboolits.gunloads.com/ CastBoolits forum about the way Cramer did hollow point molds.

There were a couple of versions, the Jim and the Cosmo.

The Jim has a feature that when you load the perfect round it says "Boo-YAAAAH!"

It also has a safety feature that prevents errors. If you screw up it screams "YOU'RE A PIG!"

The Cosmo was just for oddball calibers...

Cramer made very find molds and you will find ready buyers for those molds should you want to sell them. SEACO bought out Cramer is the late 50's or early 60's and continued to market most of the designs under the SAECO/Cramer brand. The SAECO lubrisizer is a continuation of the Cramer design.

I have six or seven Cramer molds and each one is a high quality item.

Thanks guys.

Charles,

I was betting you would know something about them.

I'm definately going to put them to use. The 60 grain mold makes a
great 25-20 bullet and the larger is around 70 grain.
Grandpa loaded hundreds of those to use in his .257 Roberts and .250-3000s.

I also found the original manual and catalog for his
Hollywood Gunshop reloading press and other tools that I still have and
use.
It's dated 1952 and almost perfect shape along
with a 1958 Winchester catalog.
$79.95 for a new 94!

2ndovc --- got to http://www.castpics.net and click on the "mold reference" tab on the left. A list will drop down and click on "Cramer Moulds". You will find a copy of the Cramer catalog there.

I remember in the late 50's when you could buy minty 94 carbines for $35.00 in 30-30. The older rifle models and carbines in calibers like 25-35 and 38-55 went for less..mostly in the $25-$30 dollar range. Lordy, how I do wish I had them back. My first centerfire rifle was bought in 1954 and cost $20.00. It was a Model 94 take down rifle (made in 1904) in 30 WCF and in cherry shape. It had factory installed sling swivels and high grade wood.
