So I said to her, "mmmm, that's disappointing....."

Post by Tycer »

I could have said more.

Last year I upgraded my countertops to some absolutely beautiful mesquite butcherblock coated in my favorite finish - Waterlox. Cha-ching!$$
Waterlox is impervious to everything except ammonia, which softens it.
Oh, yeah, also Oxyclean. Last fall Nancy soaked a blouse in Oxyclean and set the bowl on the countertop. The ring left by the wet bowl lip looked like a burning hot egg skillet had been left there. I initially thought that is what it was, but none of our pans matched the size exactly.
Since Waterlox penetrates wood and does not sit on top like poly, I had to sand down into the wood to remove the ring and then refinish that whole section of countertop to match the gloss. I'm so glad you only have to scuff Waterlox before recoating.

Last night she did it again.

mmmm, that's disappointing. I hadn't even had my coffee yet. I'm pretty proud of myself for my restraint. The words left in my brain by my restraint are still searing my grey-matter.

Here's the section I get to refinish again:

That's a really nice rifle. Is it covering the scar?

That countertop is gorgeous.

Perhaps this time SHE should re-finish it...

No, that was just one of the 94s I've bought and sold.

It IS a beautiful countertop!

We have Oxyclean in the house, too. I would simply raise cane about it. Your restraint is remarkable and you've attained sainthood. Tell Nancy I said so.

That's to bad Tyler. That countertop is just beautiful. I'd make sure there wasn't anymore Oxyclean in the house if I were you. I wouldn't want to do that a third time or pretty soon you're going to find yourself finishing the whole top from the loss of to muich material.

Tycer, your restraint is remarkable. I'm sure your wife appreciates it.

It's GREAT being Married :) . When the Kids were little We needed carpeting. A local company had industrial Berber-loop carpet at a very good price. it was some kind of nylon and they said it was near impossible to ware out.We had it laid in the dineing room right thru the kitchen as the floor is always cold. about three months after it was installed The Wife and My 7 year old got down the outside Christmas lights and laid them out to test them. At work I recived a frantic call from the Wife about the 30 holes melted in the carpet :o . I laughed and told Her thats why We have insurance.
A whole new carpet was soon installed and all was well.....then the Wife dropped the 500* broiler pan from the oven on it. She had a throw-rug on top of that mark for the next ten years......ouch.

Here's my take:
If the ring bugs you more than it does her, refinish it, and buy a new levergun as a reward.

My wife wouldn't know Oxyclean from a Sham-Wow. It's all I can do to get her to buy Windex so that I can clean the counters myself. I still think you're ahead in the game if your wife is cleaning counters or doing laundry at all.

Ya got a wife and a beautiful home. If ya LIVE IN IT, home's show it. if ya wanna live ina museum, yer probably gonna be the sole curator, if ya git my drift.

If ya don't sweat the small stuff, life is a LOT better.

(I got a wife who has TWICE backed up a trailer and engaged trailer tongue and corner of car, mangling both. Solution? Wife doesn't tow trailers anymore.)

I'll say. I don't think I could have resisted the second time - and would still be in the doghouse!

Restraint is a wonderful thing, unless you are thinking of buying another levergun :D
That is one beautiful countertop.

+1 to that. Hard sometimes...but the best outlook to have.

Nice countertop, but don't you have a laundry room for that Oxyclean?

don't refinish it yet - wait until she does it one last time.
