Varmint calling articles in Fur-Fish-Game

Post by crs »

The current issue, April 2009, has several very good articles in it and for the varmint hunter, a real treasure ==> previously unpublished stories about the Burnam brothers and their friends calling Texas brush country predators back in the 1970s. There are a couple of coyote trapping stories too, along with several other very readable articles on turkey hunting, fishing, and even how to harvest and prepare spring dandelions! Plenty there to bring back memories.
All in all, an issue worth seeking out and buying if you are not a subscriber. Try it, you will like it :)

Which stores carry that magazine? I'd like to find one...

I have always been very fond of FF&G as it is one of the few down to earth magazines on the market today. I keep a stash of them in the sleeper berth of my tractor for those times when weather forces me to pull the pins and take an extended break. Always something very practical in there it seems. Very little of the latest and greatest gadget propoganda in there.

One of my favorite books is one by Murry Burnam. My Mother got it for me on my 7th or 8th birthday. It is signed to me by Murry Burnam. Lots of experience calling predators in that book.

TedH;
Would that book be Murray Burnham's Hunting Secrets? I have that one too.
Co authored with Russell Tinsley.

There was another one, "The Critters Come When called" , but I must have misplaced it.

Good stuff --- i've been reading FFG off and on for 25 years. If i miss a few months, picking up a new issue is like sitting down with an old friend.

Lots of trapping oriented stuff that i dont get into, but i read nonetheless, plus the cover art is usually pretty cool

That's the one. I had to go back and look at it. I was wrong about the time I got it, as Murray dated it 1983 which would have been my 13th birthday.

I remember my Grandfather subscribing to FF&G years ago but I was too young to be interested in reading it. I honestly didn't know it was still around...
