I was taking my relatively new Marlin 1895 apart to clean from the breech and removed the finger lever screw without opening the action part way. I could not get the lever or the bolt out. I got the screw back in, but the action is jammed with the lever down about 1".
How do I unjam without damaging anything?
I did disassemble the gun to replace the trigger, so I am not completely hopeless.
Thanks

Re: HELP! Marlin 1895 Disassembly Goof
Take the lever screw back out and with a hook of some kind reach in from the bottom and see if you can drop the breech bolt locking lug down and unengaged from the locking notches at the rear of the bolt. Do this with the hammer cocked. That should allow you to drop the lever out as the breech bolt will be free to move to the rear.

Marlin built-in that fail-safe feature, to keep you Maine-iacs from shooting yer-selves.
