OT: Canvas Cartridge / holster belts

Post by J Miller »

I've got two dozen leather companies in my bookmarks. But I need pictures of the old canvas cartridge / holster belts and I can't find any.

Can any of you guys give me some links ?

TIA

Joe

Jeff's Outfitters used to carry them for shotgun and cartridge, but they dropped the cartridge models last year. Here's the shotgun style, which is just like the cartridge belt they carried.

Joe, google "web cartridge belts." You'll find that El Paso Saddlery offers a couple of nice belts. There are are others. I have a a kind of crummy one that I got from Cabela's. It does hold forty .30-30 cartridges nicely.

Joe -

There have been several complaints lately about looooonnnnnngggg waits for El Paso Saddlery products and slow response times to phone calls and letters.

Check this link Joe. These belts are in stock and ready for shipping now.

That's the belt I have. Here's a picture of it in real life.

I've noticed two different kinds of canvas cartridge belts.
The ones made of canvas with leather ends, and ones that are canvas slip ons with a leather belt inside.

The ones I was looking for were the canvas ones with the leather ends. The reason is I mentioned them to my wife and she said she wanted to try to make one. So now we got pics and links. We'll see what happens.

Griff, can I come over and play with some of your toys?

Joe, the Cabela's belt is folded duck (I guess) with a finished width of 2-1/2 inches. The leather belt is 1-3/4 inches wide, inserted into the duck "body" of the belt, and the duck is sewn around the buckle to keep it from sliding on the belt. If you wish, I can e-mail you a few pictures of its construction details.

Let me show these to my wife and see which she want to try and make. If she chooses the kind you posted I'll come back for the pics.

Good grief Joe!! They're only $39.99 at Cabela's. I'd think that would be cheaper than the cost of buying all the materials needed and the worth of your wife's time to make them.

Have you thought anymore about moving back to NM or AZ? When, how, where, etc.?

Yes we think and are thinking about moving ALL the time. Constantly working on things and ways to make our escape from here. One of these day it will come to pass.

When I'm home and set back up my first post will be whole page full of  .

ED,

OK, I just overlooked the link. That is the second type of belt, the one with the regular leather belt inside of a ducking covering. Not the kind I'm looking at. Also I've unable to find out how big or what size that belt is. Not talking about what cartridges it will hold, but how long the belt is.

Ahhh, now that's closer to what I'm looking for. El Paso Saddlery had one that is a bit narrower for holsters and short cartridges. All these are for rifle cartridges.

They got some other neat stuff in there too. Gonna look some more.
