Hey everyone,

It's that time again, thinking of getting another gun. Can you all talk me into getting a Henry .22? BTW, can they accept peep sights?

Hi kmittleman, take a look at rimfirecentral.com they have a Henry forum with all sorts of sight options etc.

I had a German made Erma, the forerunner of the Henry, it was a really good rifle and so smooth. If I didn't already have two Winchester 9422s and a Savage 24 I would buy a Henry .22 tomorrow.

I still like my Ruger 96/22 better...

I just love the short, smooth, lever throw - and the interchangeability of magazines with my 10/22. If I couldn't find one at an affordable price, I would pick the Henry next, because the ones I've shot are smooth as well (lever throw seems longer but may be because it isn't a curved pistol grip style), and a Marlin after that, because the couple I've shot (been awhile) weren't quite as smooth, and were more awkward. I really like the appearance of the 1894's they made in .22LR but I've never handled one. (That skinny little side part of the bolt on the 39A just looks funny to me, even though I know they are great guns.)

I would certainly recommend one to every levergunner. Talk about a smooooth action. Mine is very accurate with CCI mini mags. I was not satisfied with the factory sights so I installed a Williams FP receiver sight and cut off the front sight from the barrel band, cut a dovetail in the top of the band and installed a Williams bead. Drilling and tapping of the receiver cover is a simple job for anyone handy with tools.

I bought one awhile back as an impulse buy because of the price and the fact that the walnut stock was beautiful! After shooting this slick little rascal a lot,it's become my favorite .22 rifle (pushing aside a couple of more expensive rimfires in the process) and it goes with me more than any rifle I own now. When I'm doing ice storm cleanup and fixing fence the little Henry is propped nearby ready for a shot at one of the foxes that have been eying the laying hens. Some of the best money I've spent in a long while. :D

I purchased one of the big loop varaities for Y2K many years ago. His favorite movie at the time was "True Grit", so he loved having a "John Wayne gun" his size. He still loves it. :D

Ted, I'm going to have to look into doing the same thing with the sights. That's my only complaint on the gun - the factory sights aren't so hot.
