Humor: Dividing late father's herd of 17 horses

Post by stormspotter »

A father had passed away, leaving his 3 sons a herd of 17 horses. The eldest son was to get 1/2 the herd. The second son was to get 1/3rd of the herd. The youngest son was to get 1/9th of the herd.

As they sat on the corral fence, arguing about who was to get what, a neighbor came riding up. Aftering hearing what was going on, he told them that their father was his best friend of 40 years and he didn't want to see the family broke up over something like this. So, he took the saddle off his horse and put it in the corral with the rest of the herd.

Now there are 18 horses and the sons begin dividing up the herd. The eldest son got 9 horses, the second son got 6 horses and the youngest son got 2 horses. So, 9 + 6 + 2 = 17, and with that the neighbor puts his saddle back on his horse and rides off.
Republic. I like the sound of the word. It means people can live free, go or come, buy or sell, be drunk or sober, however they choose. Some words give you a feeling. Republic is one of those words that makes me tight in the throat . . . . Some words can give you a feeling that makes your heart warm. Republic is one of those words.

The youngest brother came out 0.006 horses ahead.
(1/9=0.111, 2/17=0.118)

The fathers best friend must have had ties with the federal reserve. Smoke and mirrors.

New government math, that's all it is. :D

1/2 = 9/18
1/3 = 6/18
1/9 = 2/18

Total comes to 17/18, not a whole number.
