OT - Low Recoil 12 ga. Ammo

Post by Hobie »

Seems to me that somebody here was asking about a low recoiling shotgun for his child, child bride or bride (can't remember which  ). MidwayUSA has Federal produce such a round. 7/8 oz shot, 1200 feet per second velocity, 5,000 pounds of chamber pressure.
Sincerely,

Hobie

Hey,
Good to know for us geezers who do not think it is fun to turn game birds into pink mist.

Might have been me, but it would have been a couple years ago! I did get Y2K a shotgun for Christmas this year - went with a 20 gauge.

The lightest 12b load you can buy from a major manufacturer and find in Wal-Mart or Dick's Sporting Goods and like stores is the Winchester AA Featherlite. It is a 26 gram load of 8's at 990 fps. That's a little less than an ounce of 8's that break skeet targets with authority and will knock down a dove or quail decisively.

ditto on what 86er said...have shot cases of the "featherlites" AA from Winchester and they have less felt recoil that a 20ga with standard field loads......a little pricey, but everything is right now.....

I'm not a fan of 8s on dove. Small point but I use 7½s as a minimum.

Would this low recoil stuff be advisable for SD in a home? Maybe less mess to clean up?

I use the AAs mentioned above for CAS. Out of a 28" SxS they are very easy on the arthritic body, yet I'd fully expect they'd be near 100% "one shot stop" rated at HD distances.

I bought a box of these some years back and still have a few left. They do just what the box says-------------I'm just one of those guys who needs his shoulder pushed back a bit.--------Sixgun
