OT: Concealed Carry holster recommendations.

Post by mklwhite »

Looking for recommendations on either a tuckable IWB or some sort of shoulder rig.
The gun: Glock 19
The clothes: Button-up shirts (usually with a t-shirt underneath) and jeans. Coat/jacket only during cold weather.

I really like my Galco Miami II shoulder rig for wearing under a jacket (with a 1911). Very comfortable and balanced. Easily adjustable. Carries 2 magazines horizontally. May not be what you are looking, but if it is, shop around and get it on sale.

I carry a pocket gun when wearing summer clothes and use a Nemesis pocket holster. I never found an IWB holster that was comfortable. Still looking for one.

I've tried some IWB, and one custom one, cant' think of the name but might have been sparks.... around 125 bucks, with correct pants and belt, works VERY nicely. I tend to wear jeans and a big loose t shirt over it or if we have to tuck in a big loose shirt there to.

Fanny pack if that doesn't work.

If jacket weather just a standard belt slide holster from Dillon.

For my Glocks I have a Comp-Tac, C-Tac Slide. It is tuckable and the slide lets you carry a G26 to a full sized G17 sized Glocks.

Milt Sparks Versa-Max 2 -- works great and extremely comfortable, plus workmanship is OUTSTANDING! They are so popular that there is typically a several month wait, from the factory, However, Lightning Arms Sports usually has them in inventory. Both Sparks and LAS are on thweweb.

Hope this helps!

My favorite IWB holster is the Bianchi Pistol Pocket. I don't know if it is still available, but IMO these set the standard for IWB holsters.

Good Luck finding a comfortable shoulder holser.

What's the "Combat Grip" option they have? They don't appear to really go into it on the website.

Another +1 for CompTac CTAC or MTAC. Crossbreeds are similar, but I prefer the simpler CTAC.

WARNING....

if you are anything like me you will end up with a box full of holsters that just didnt work out.

I like Galco and Bianchi for the most part... pancakes and IWBs work for semi-autos and small revolvers.

Seems like I am very lucky.. I buy a lot of holsters used and it seems like some dandies have fallen my way.

I like the Galco FLETCH HIGH RIDE HOLSTER for all of my carry guns. It allows you to carry a gun on your hip belt tight against your body with the least amount of printing. The Glock is a bit bulky and the top of the slide will sometimes hit objects if you walk to close, but for the most part the holster keeps everything in check. Keep in mind that with a Glock, hiding the entire trigger behind leather is important, Galco holsters do this right.

Regarding a shoulder rig; most shoulder holsters point the muzzle out the back of your arm and at everyone around you. It will point at your wife, kids, and other armed individuals who may take great offense at having a muzzle pointed at them. The number one rule in gun safety is "don't point your gun at anything you do intend to destroy;" most shoulder rigs violate this rule in spades.

I have no problems drawing quickly without the combat grip. I can see where my skin could get pinched between the leather and the grip with the combat grip cutout. That would only have to happen a couple of times and I'd quit wearing it.

I agree. I'd be wearing it a lot more than drawing from it. And anything can be adapted to. It boggles my mind as to how much people think they "need" things customized.

I don't use a holster on my Glock 17 for inside the waist band. I use the Clip Draw with the safety plug in the trigger guard. Great setup and no bulk. Not expensive, when you take the gun off just put it away, nothing to take off the belt etc. Great here in a warm climate where a jacket or heavy shirt is too much. CHeck them out at http://www.clipdraw.com I like the ones I have on a number of guns. Good Luck.

While I like the Clip Draw, and had one mounted on my G27, you can't "tuck" with it... unless you use somthing like a CTAC.

I was able to use my CTAC with the Clip Draw and still Tuck my shiry when it was required...

Update: I got a Kholster (similar to Crossbreed) for Christmas.
Image
I've worn it twice so far for 3+ hours each time. It conceals well and is fairly comfortable. When walking around I even (briefly) forgot it was there. Driving will take some getting use to as you are really aware of it then. It doesn't hurt or anything, you just really can feel it being there. Thanks to everyone for there suggestions/recommendations. In the end I looked and read about several and made a list for Christmas and that's what I got. I'm happy with it. :D

For the price you can't beat the IWB holsters from http://www.highnoonholsters.com

I have the hidden ally for my S&W M&P compacts. The only negative is that it will collapse when the gun isn't in it. Not a problem for me, but it may be for someone else.

I like Inside waist band holsters from A.E. Nelson. Gary has been a family friend for years, and he makes very high quality stuff. I still drool over his saddle scabbards that are made of leather so thick, they stand up in the corner. I have several holsters from A.E. Nelson, and they all fit perfectly, and are very reasonable compared to the "name brand" company prices.

I have a leather Dillion pancake holster for my Glock 23, while it is not an IWB, worn with a jacket on top - it does not get noticed.
