Couldn't pass it up - new Uberti Henry owner
I've been hemming and hawing about picking up a new pistol caliber lever for the past few months, and had just about decided on getting a Chaparral 1873 in 45 Colt when I spotted a used Uberti Henry (Cimarron marked) in 44-40 for sale on a Canadian gun site. Never considered a Henry mainly due to its price - one of the few places up here that carries any amount of Uberti products lists them at $1400 - so I'd be looking at $1500 after shipping and the tax man. But, at $625 delivered to my door for one with a perfect bore, I couldn't email the seller fast enough. The brass butt plate could use a bit of polishing (along with 2 small spots on the tang) but that doesn't bother me. I'm going to be like a kid waiting for Santa, waiting for this thing to come in the mail.
Some of the seller's pics:
Look like those spots will polish out?
For those of you with experience with the Uberti Henry's - any quirks/issues that I should be aware of? I usually wear leather gloves when I shoot anyway, so barrel heating isn't a problem.

Yup.
Anything else I should have to go with it (besides more brass ). I have an original Winchester Low Wall that I'm having rebarreled in 44-40 (the original barrel was lined to 22 Hornet, and then whoever had it let the bore pit all the hell ) so it'll be nice to have a repeater to go with it.

At $500 USD, I would have robbed my piggy bank and dipped into my moving fund for that. I even got dies and some brass waiting.
I've wanted one of those for a very long time. Congrats on a great find.

Nice purchase. I'm envious. I believe the spots will polish out, but personally I'd just leave'em after making sure it's not cancerous.

I sure hope you got one with a good bore. (There was a long thread about that subject, here, last Spring, IIRC)
I don't think I'd polish on it - It looks like that brass is starting to develop a "patina" - and there's NOTHING that looks as nice as a patina-ed brass Henry !
Heck - I'd even experiment with leaving the brass parts exposed to the weather, some, this Winter - to help it along !

The cimmeron (Uberti)Henry is a great gun. And you got it at a really good price.
But remember, with a brass frame, you can't load it too heavy.
The only issue I have heard for the Henry's (in any caliber) is when you load the tube, ease that spring loaded plunger back down onto the cartridges. If you only load 5 or ten, then "let her go", the spring can send the plunger down hard enough to detonate a round. Now this is not an every day occurrence, but it happens frequently enough to use appropriate caution.
Now for the good stuff. They shoot like a dream. And the 44-40 LOVES black powder. The necked case nearly eliminates blow back keeping the action surprisingly clean.
I have an 1866 Uberti. For CAS I use 25 grains of 3f, a little cornmeal (just enough to compress the load slightly, and a 205 gr spg bullet from Powder Inc.
http://www.powderinc.com.
It shoots to Point of aim at 50 yards. Sounds like a howitzer, but with only 25 grains, the recoil is like a 22.
And... shooting black powder slows you down. Before you crank out another round, you have to wait for the smoke to clear.
Great fun... Enjoy your new toy, my friend.

The problem using historical quotes in your signature is that there is no way to verify its authenticity.

Re: Couldn't pass it up - new Uberti Henry owner
My congratulations just like eveyone above. I'd also like to congratulate the seller. Those pics, although a little lacking in quality, are about the most honest representation of an article being sold that I have seen. The only thing better than finding a honest man is to find him selling a rifle at a good price. So congrates to both owners, old and new.

Who cares? Great buy on a great rifle!Killer Kanuck wrote:I

The Henry may just be the most accurate rifle to come out of Italy. I have owned three of them in 44WCF, and they shot like they have radar. I ain't kiddin neither.
By the way, only pansys wear gloves when shooting the Henry!
Enjoy!
