Not sure how small he is, but that big old gun looks like a '76 Winnie.

From similar photos of "dudes" I have seen, my guess is that this a studio photo and the guns may be props provided by the studio.

Re: Old Photo of Navajo With Lever and Colt SAA!
How come guns in old pictures look like "old guns" with no finish left on 'em, when in reality, they most likely had all or most of their finish when the pic was taken?
I think Bogus Bill is right. (on the '66.) Looks like a short forend too.
Vall may be right too. I originally thought it was a '73--so now we have three inexperienced shootists disagreeing
I thought we were supposed to know what we are talking about, here on leverguns
Well, you guys can have the '66/'73/'76 I'll take that SA Colt

I'll really take a flyer aand venture that the rifle is a niickel-plated(!) '76 Winchester... Compare the finish on it to the Colt's.

Here's another photo of the same brave with his buddy. It looks to be a 76 nickle to me if I compare it to the rolling block but there are more qualified people than me here to identify it for sure. It could be just the flash.

The second photo confirms that it is a '76. The sideplate runs too far back to be a '73 and '66s didn't have sideplates.

Cool pic's. By the looks on their faces I wouldn't want to be at the wrong end of the rifle with them two.

Thats not the same gun he is holding in the 2nd picture with the loading gate showing. It also doesnt have the "dip" of metal forward of the lever like the 1st picture has. Isnt that dip or extra metal under the frame indictaive of the model 66 or henry prior to the 66, and the henry didnt have a forearm. Here is a closeup of the "dip" on a model 66 I got off the internet.

Re: Old Photo of Navajo With Lever and Colt SAA!
Using a magnifying glass I can see that it is the same 1876 in both pics. The side plate extends too far back to be a 1873. And the lever curves like a 76, not a 73.
Nice combo of guns. Colt SAA, and Win 1876. It would be much better to have him as a friend than an enemy.

Love those old photos.
Last weekend I got to see an old family photo from about 1895. It was a photo of my Great Grandparents and their kids. My Grandpa was about 10 in the pic, youngest picture of him I've ever seen.

Since we are showing, here is a picture of yours truly standing by John Doyle Lee. Lee was my wifes stepmothers great great grandfather. He was exicuted for his part in the mountain meadows massacure where 122 people in a wagon train were wiped out by the mormans and indians.
The 2nd picture is my great great grand parents. Frederick Kerstell was a vet of the civil wars iron brigade from wisconsin. He was wounded spent time in prision, traded or escaped and fought bull run and gettysberg. 2nd volentereers infantry co. D the hardest heaviest loss,s of any in the war.

Assuming a 26" barrel on the Winchester the brave is between 5-4 and 5-6" tall by rough measure.

Seeing as John Doyle Lee had not less than six wives (and who knows how many childern)-- it would be interesting to know, if your wifes stepmother's great great grandMOTHER was Agatha Ann Woolsey ?

Rick-F: I will have to double check with mother in law, but I am guessing it was sarah caroline williams. He had between 16 to 20 wives and something like 50 kids! A huge coincidence: This thanksgiveing our daughter that is engaged held a huge dinner in california. Her mother in law to be had lost everything she owns in that fire two weeks ago in selmar, calif. We took a load of stuff for her from extra stuff the wife put together and drove the truck to the dinner. We had never met her. My mother in law and her got chatting and low & behold, the fiances mother claims to be a decendant from one of the orphans from the francher wagon train! Small world! I am posting the Lee family link below.
