There are slob hunters and there are, well...
Periodically I have seen a critter dumped at the low water crossing by my place. It's inconvenient, spooks my horse (he shies from the smell of dead stuff), but up to now had just been a sometimes thing.
Now it has become a habit.
A fresh one.
Two that have been here quite a while.
I don't know if you can make it out, but all that's left of this one was hair.
This on a county road.
I know hogs are a problem and more need to be shot than one might desire to eat (clean). But dang it! Don't make a mess by my place!

They've been dumping deer carcasses up near, but across the road from, my mom's place. Counted 6 new ones this week.

20Cows,
Have you contacted the DFG? They will be able to help, but probably not till after deer season.

Where are all your buzzards? They on strike, or something?
I can send some your way, if need be.

Sounds like a place to call coyotes.

Buzzards are like ducks. They don't hang around in winter.
Re: There are slob hunters and there are, well...
Got that here too, guys with a boned out deer or even whole ones they don't want, get dumped in quiet places of parking lots, sides of roads, etc.
Why they can't spend 1 more minute dragging it 100 feet into the brush is beyond me.

Re: There are slob hunters and there are, well...
Around here they could just take it to the DUMP! Dang, there's even local dump sites. Want to "hide" it (for whatever reason), just put it in a BAG and throw it out with the rest of the trash.
Sincerely,

I don't think TPWD could do anything about it since hogs are a non-native/introduced species. There are no seasons, restrictions, etc., on them in Texas. Now, whoever has purview over the local waterways might be able to nab them, or the county health department. But, TPWD, no. I'm almost sure there's nothing illegal going on from their perspective.
What I don't get is the dumping of whole animals. On our place, if I want to kill a hog solely for population control purposes, I just leave them where they lie. Nothing goes to waste in nature.

I think that the dumping of carcasses - regardless of species - is a TPWD/F&G LE issue... if only for Vector Control.RSY wrote:I don't think TPWD could do anything about it since hogs are a non-native/introduced species. When I lived up north we would find a few deer every spring that had been snowplowed into a ditch. My horses dont care for that dead smell either.
We buried a horse out in the back pasture in Sept... my paint wants to make a big circle around that area to this day. Equines have good sniffers.

Re: There are slob hunters and there are, well...
Here in CA it is open season with no restrictions on hunting hogs; however, you do have to have a tag for them. Even with no restrictions, they are considered game and in CA it is unlawful to leave game in place after you shoot it. You must remove it from the field. Now, not everyone follows the removal rule but if you're caught, you place your gun, vehicle, etc. in jeopardy of being confiscated with heavy fines on top of that.

20 Cows, that is a real shame them trashing your place. I just don't get the thinking of some of these one-way selfish people who act like the world is their garbage pit and have not thoughts about respecting others property. don't get it, never will.

Just looked in the TPWD Outdoor Annual booklet. Here's who you should probably call:
Texas Animal Health Commission www.tahc.state.tx.us
It says they "regulate the movement of feral swine for disease-control purposes."

Re: There are slob hunters and there are, well...

I always carried a small military shovel hooked to my pistol belt. Had to when I was severing , dug a lot of holes . Some really big , some not so big. But I usually planted any parts I didn't take home. Extra work , but I was always invited back my the land owner.
