Winchester 1895 SRC 30-06 sight regulation?

Post by Jaguarundi »

I have a 1895 SRC 1906-2006 Special Edition 100th Anniversary of the .30-06 on layaway. This carbine has the military rear sight and I was curious what factoryload would it be regulated/graduated for?Any favorite petloads using this sight would also be useful. The rifle will be used for hunting mostly. Thanks! 8)

Most likely the 150 gr. bullet at 2750 fps which was the standard velocity and bullet weight of our military at the time. I have noticed (common sense! duh!) that most all military rifle's sights are regulated to their contemporary loads. Just take a Trapdoor rifle, load some 500 grain bullets at 1100 fps and the sights will work way out there. The carbine sights will work with the 400 grain bullets. 30-40 Krag rifle sights work with the 220 grain bullet-------------Sixgun

Mine is bang on using 180gr bullets.Have used several brands of 180s and they all print to the same point of impact and group close to the same as well.

Good answers both thanks.I am familiar with reloading period loads for military Mausers years ago. Sixgun thanks for the reminder.Reloading retro-period ballistic 150gr rounds should extend case life.Barbarossa the modern factory loaded 180 gr makes sense with improvements in the last 75 years of the 30-06 ballistics.Barbarossa any standout favorite factory loads? 8)

My '95 won't shoot any 150gr load, period. I'm with barbarosa, 180's should be the perfect recipe.
