Best Store Bought Lead 45/70 Bullet

Post by chancesr »

I am going to start reloading for my Marlin 45/70 and I am trying to get some suggestions on decent lead bullets basically for practice. Inexpensive is good as long as they hit things!

Order direct and they are cheaper than Midway.

....and here's their load data (low velocity).

I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.

There are several makers of good commercial cast bullets around. Beartooth Bullets, Cast Performance, Oregon Trail, Montana Bullet Works, to name a few. Most important thing to remember is to get the proper diameter for your bore. The Marlins usually run a little on the large size, so a .460" cast bullet should be the smallest you'll want to use.

The 350gr. Cast Performance (Leverguns sponsor) is a great bullet and shoots very accurately in my Marlins. It is a hunting bullet with GC and not real cheep so you may need to start casting if you want economy in a cast bullet. :D

425g, one of the world's best 45/70 bullets. there is also a 325g and 525g with the same profile, they all feed flawlessly in every firearm I've used them in...
