How will you FIX your guns

Post by Modoc ED »

What with recent events, it won't be long before you won't be able to get your guns repaired either by yourseld or by a gunsmith.

Pretty soon barrels and other gun parts (i.e., triggers, bolts, firing pins, etc.) will be required to have serial numbers assigned to them just like receivers are required to have them now and those parts will only be available through a FFL dealer. Don't laugh this has been tried before.

My point is that it would be a wise idea to lay in as many parts as you think you will need. Try to find out the most common parts of your guns that routinely require service and buy a few for your gun box storage.

A very good idea Ed!

Since 99% of what I own is pre WWI, I've had to make parts for years, so nothing new now.

I've laid in a supply of springs and where needed buffers. I've never shot out a barrel before.

Don't let hysteria get the best of you. In our lifetime, simple parts will always be available. They still are in most other civilized countries. I have bought parts from Austrailia with no headaches.

When they do ban parts or serialize them, it will be too late as the revolution will already begun.-------------------Sixgun

That's not hysteria it's just good common sense and good planning. Some guys are fortunate and handy with tools and their hands and can make stuff but most aren't. So, plan accordingly and get what you think you'll need.

I routinely keep spare parts for most of my guns. There are a couple I don't have any for, but I'm not worried. I'm not gonna panic, I'm not gonna loose sleep over what may or may not happen.

To be honest I'm more concerned about what idiotic laws IL might pass.

I did that for my Winchesters but not for the same reason, I did it because the rifle is discontinued and parts won't be available forever.

But I forgot firing pins! Now I have to order again.

Good idea. If they do that though, it will just create a large black market...

I picked up a gunsmith book at a gunshow that was printed in the 30's that deals with making parts from scap metal . It explains on how hot to heat the metal to get it to the right hardness for application. It's a good reference book to have on the shelf.
