OT - why no MAS 49-56
When that semi auto fifle thread was going no one mentioned the MAS 49-56.
Why?
Why?
Re: why
Maybe if it isn't a 308 convert, locating the ammo?

Re: why
Dunno really.... Maybe because the conversions from the original 7.5X54mm to 7.62X51mm sold in the US were not entirely reliable.

Re: why
I had one that I could not get rid of fast enough. Jammed, inaccurate, etc.
Rather have an SKS.
Anyone else have different experience?

I know a couple of people on this forum who like their guns.

Re: OT - why no MAS 49-56
I posted the thread on the semi-auto, because I want an M1-A. But I do have a Mas 49-56 chambered in 308. It shoots fine the times I have fired it, fairly accurate. Anyone want to buy it? It's a clean and decent rifle, 2 -10 round mags.
To hell with them fellas, buzzards gotta eat same as the worms.

Have two, one original ,1 .308 they both are fine my shooting friend also has two, same thing. We like them, I am aware of the bad press, but have actually seen one like that.

The one I had was a .308.
Just didn't work. Wrote it off as a poor conversion and got rid of it. Told the guy that bought it that it was a clunker but he didn't care. Just wanted as part of his Mil. collection.

Good rifles - 308 equiv round (7.5 French) and ammo is avail http://www.grafs.com but kinda pricey. Owned two previously.
For these times, I recommend .223, 308 or other common chambering.

Happen to have a LARGE lot of 6.5x55 Mauser brass, makes good 7.5x54 French

A friend has one-polished the chamber and it runs fine, looks to be a tough little rifle.Wish I could find a good one.Another good one is the FN 49-bit heavy but a goood rifle.

Agreed but in a handier lenght. Also detachable clips unlike the fn 49.First french rifle that I knowingly liked but the mas 36 isn't bad either for a surplus bolt gun.

Naw,
it's just Ji, he must be feeling better, especially if he wants a MAS to bounce him around.

I'm in bed with a borrowed laptop so posting not to difficult. I just had a brainstorm that I should purchase a centerfire semi-auto rifle before Hussein Obama comes to power, and I'm guessing the MAS may be the only affordable .308 left.

Brucew44guns has one for sale, I would part with mine ( the .308 ) for you Ji.
But you need to parley with Bruce first, he spoke first.
Glad to see you are chipper!
