Post by Nath »

Any of you guys know anything about the above? I believe it was popular over here (Britain) years ago but nobody uses it now, I would like to know what it is based on and it's performance etc ?
Thanks,

Thankyou very much. Quite mild then! I allways thought it was stronger than that as I remember reading how it was used on deer, just shows how much tougher deer are nowa days :lol:

Ross Seyfried used the .310 Cadet on deer. I think that's 150 at 1350-1400 or so. He's also used the .455 on elk...

Hobie;
I'm sure you got this information from Ross but, do you recall what publication it was in?
Something like that I would have clipped but I don't recall it.
Thanks for your input.

Hobie, I remember an article from Ross using a 451 Whitworth on elk, do mean the 455 Webley pistol round?

IIRC the .455 pistol round on elk (in an original rifle) was in Double Gun and Single Shot Rifle Journal.

I think he mentioned the .310 Cadet use on deer in either Rifle or Handloader. I clipped the article, just have to find it... :roll:

Maybe a good modern clone of the Sherwood would be the 327 Federal or the TC 30-20.

A .357 Mag chambered rifle would be a much more practical and versitile option. IMHO

I remember as a kid seeing a magazine article about deer shooting and seeing an old black and white picture of a gentleman holding a rifle of some sort and the caption mentioned the Sherwood and ever since I have allways wondered what it looked like etc. I'm not really after one, just wondering, you know.

Thanks GK, nice little cartridge. A mini 30/30. Bayonet barrels n' all.

That bullets construction looks interesting too.

Thanks fellers.
