My thoughts exactly - why get mad right before bed? I'm having a hard enough time sleeping as it is. I am taping it - figured I could watch it tomorrow. I think McCain's only chance is to do well in the debates. He needs to show the country he is ready - and Obama is a neophyte. The problem is the public is going to blame the current melt-down on Republicans, and the Dem's will do everything they can to foster that impression. The MSM wull only be too happy to help...

I watched it and think they both did well. That said, I will vote R even if O`whatshisname was the greatest lier in the world. Others may get sucked in and that is what scares me. Many, like my wife, will vote for whoevers wife wears the shinyest jewelry or has the latest hair do.

IMO, McCain cleand Obama's clock but good.

Obama came on grinning like a jackass eating briars, and McCain came out sober and serious.

Then Obama' da something dumb, McCain would grin and knock his argument down. McCasin plainly stated that Obama "just doesn't understand" on numerous occasions, and went on to show he was right.

McCain nailed Obama for saying one thing and voting another. He nailed Obama for preaching against porkbarrel spending and earmarks while averaging over $1 Million per day for every day he spent in the Senate prior to starting to run for president.

IMO, McCain was the clear winner of the debate. Of course the liberal talking heads are busy telling people how badly Obama outclassed McCain in the debate. That is the story you will be getting in the morning paper. If you watch something, you don't have to trust other people to give a true account of what happened.

Republicans will never win intellectually or morally when all they do is play 'catch up' with Democrats, and trip over themselves explaining how THEIR solution to whatever the 'crisis' of the day is is just as good as the Democrat solution. Someday I'd like them to have the gonads to say:

"Gee Mr. NPR Leftist Debate Host, 'Health Care' [or 'Education' or 'The Economy' or 'Housing'] is not something I HAVE a position on, because it is against the law for the federal government to enact any laws affecting that issue - please do me the favor of reading the Constitution before asking me another stupid question like that, and quit pandering to your pseudointellectual 'liberal' audience who assuage their guilt for their own material success by pretending to advocate for the illiterate masses of 'poor' people who still enjoy a better lifestyle than 90% of the world's citizens, courtesy of our rapidly eroding 'evil capitalist' system."

I liked the part of McCain straightening out Obama about Henry Kissinger. He said he knew Henry for 35 years, Obama was still a boy back then. McCain seemed more sure of himself, a little more at ease than his opponent. I hope McCain wins, maybe he will be so busy fixing things he will leave our guns alone for awhile.

I have to admit that Obama is more "presidential" in his bearing, and McCain's "almost lisp" does not help him at all. Despite that, I think McCain made if painfully clear that he has a long history of experience that Obama does not have. I would even go so far to say that McCain "spanked" Obama on issues of foreign policy and defense. I am encouraged by the turn of events, and I think even the liberal media will find themselves hard pressed to say Obama won. On a similar experience note, I hope Palin does well against Biden, who I don't like a bit, but he does have a great deal of experience in matters of Congress. I like her a lot, and I hope she wins. She is the most "American" candidate I have ever known in my lifetime.

I was working on some CAD, and so I heard it mostly, and only watched the last few minutes. McCain sounded like he knew what he was talking about and Obama like he was well briefed but couldn't find the men's washroom without a map, on his own. I thought with the visuals, Obama did better than McCain. No idea why. I don't know any job where you get to be CEO after a few months in the office. I don't think this debate changed much, maybe the post debate spin will.

I only saw the last 45 minutes live and from that I would say McCain's debating skills were a hair better during that time. He obviously got under Obama's skin at one point. I went back and watched the first half in parts and really couldn't get a good impression of who did what better. The whole time I watched, it seemed like I was watching a primary debate. Same platform, just who could sell their subtle differences better. It would have been nice to hear where they get the authority to do the things they want. Probably why I don't recall the Constitution being mentioned. IIRC

Obama tried to run a little offense but never got much going.... I noted he had to start way to many sets with "I agree, John"
Obama got on the ropes a couple of times... he looked pretty agitated at time.
McCain made a couple of pretty pointed observation about Obamas congressional record. I hope they all hold up to fact checking... if they do Mc Cains camp will be in sound bite heaven.

Neither landed any big punches tonight. I'd give it to McCain on points... he didnt let Obama play his game, and didnt let him be charming.

Started watching the debate here at home and decided to go to the local tavern, no beer here! Got back and was pleasantly surprised that the normally left leaning news were gritting their teeth about McCain doing as good as he did. Must mean that he done good.

One subltey that I noticed was that Obama kept on looking out at someone in the audience and made finger and facial gestures as if he was being coached. To me that made him look like a buffoon.

McCain was the clear winner in this debate regarding substance in the answers to the questions. Obama looked like a neoophyte and was on the defensive.
