OT humor Kids
Most of America 's population think its improper to spank children,
so I have tried other methods to control my kids when they have one of 'those moments.'
One that I found effective is for me to just take the child
for a car ride and talk.
They usually calm down and stop misbehaving
after our car ride together.
I've included a photo below of one of my sessions
with my son, in case you would like to use the technique.
Sincerely,
A mother

Me, I'm too lazy to get in the car. I'll stay with spanking!
Actually, I have to admit my kids behalf very well - which I chalk up to the fact that I did spank them, when needed, when they were younger. Punishments and rewards need to be age-appropriate, swift, sure and consistent to be effective.
Now all I have to do is start counting. I rarely need to get past "one" before they instantly stop doing whatever it is that they shouldn't be doing. If I get to "three" they know what's coming next!

Reminds me of the lil' twerp my Grandma babysat. When he first showed up he wanted to know "Who rules the roost?" so to speak. He started to climb a step ladder and she told him to get down. He kept on going and when his gluteous maximus was at just the right height she cut loose and swatted it good. He came scootin' down and kind of stammered "But, but, but you didn't even count!" To which she replied, "That's right. I expect obedience at once, not after a count down." We learned from her via her son (my dad) that obedience NOW is expected. We passed it on to our own kids.Ysabel Kid wrote:Now all I have to do is start counting. I rarely need to get past "one" before they instantly stop doing whatever it is that they shouldn't be doing. Nothin' wrong with a good spanking when needed. But as you mentioned, punishment should be age appropriate. It kills me to see grown adults trying to "reason" with a two year old.

"Reason" with a 2 year old is indeed a swat on the hiney. Only thing that matters to what is essentially a smart wild animal still trying to be domesticated!
I think one of the worse forms of child abuse is the nit-wit parents who won't discipline their kids. We all know the type - wants to be their friends before being their parents. All it does is make for an obnoxious little brat that will grow up into an egomanic young adult. Then they discover the real world doesn't give a rip about them, and the hard lessons begin - much too late.
Like I said, I don't have to count often. I too expect immediate obedience. I'm old fashioned - I expect children to treat all adults with respect, address them appropriately, behave, etc. Boy am I a throwback!!!
I've become my father! As he used to say, when we'd whine about something: "This is not a democracy - this is a dictatorship - and I'm the dictator! As long as you live in MY house you will obey MY rules!"
I miss my father!

SNIP
I miss my father!
Yeah, we had my wife's niece and nephews over for Thanksgiving. The older two STILL remember the two months they spent with us two years or so back. The youngest? Well, he was still en utero at the time. He soon learned that Uncle and Aunt are NOT Daddy and Mommy - and expect all little squirts to behave. He "got his feelings hurt" when he stuck his finger in the pulley of the target holder at the gun club - after I specifically told him "Don't touch!" (yeah, I set him up with THAT command). And when I heard the yelp I turned around, saw no blood and promptly laughed at him. What can I say? I'm a sensitive guy! Anyway, they were only around for a day, but boy did he learn a lot. The other two? The lessons from way back still stuck...
Yeah, I miss my dad too...

KIND of on the same TYPE of subject - but with a twist.
Some folks are as (or more) asinine with their pets as with kids.
