OT-Hot Rods, Muscle cars, street rods, post'em up

Post by shawn_c992001 »

I've seen a bike post, love'em by the way! So I figured why not a hot rod or muscle car post.

So here's mine: 2001 Pontiac Trans Am 5.7L (350) cid, STS turbo, methanol injection, and boost control. With a few other odds and ends. Yes those are Crager S/S wheels (How can you call it a hot rod with out Cragers on it?)

Here's the closest thing I have to a hot rod:

It's a project and once I get a couple more firearm related things taken care of, it's next on the "fun money" list.

I have had a lot of 'em over the years. My first was a RS/SS '68 Camaro that I bought in '72. A '68 Firebird with the Sprint 6 OHC was sitting in my garage for about 20 years until my son liberated it from me. My Dad left this '55 Buick to me a couple of years ago. His brother, (my blood uncle) wanted it so I sold it to him. Below that is my daily driver, an '89 YJ. Below that one is my gunshow/mountain Rubicon

Got to love the Bugs!!! I always smile when I see one at a show, and the majority of the owners are really great people too.

That roadster is sweet!!! Is that a Small Block Chevy I'm seeing? What is that waiting to see the light of day again?

...well, I ain't got it anymore, but I had a 1972 AMC Javelin SST. Hurricane Katrina ruined it beyond any hope of repair, not that time & yours truly were kind to the car. I also used to have a 1971 Javelin, and a 1974 Javelin AMX, much like this one:

The 1971-through-1974 Javelins were the coolest-looking cars on the road. I burned a lot of rubber in mine. :!:

My guess is it's a 1967 Chevelle 2dr Hardtop and it came with the L79 v8, but sadly that was lost before the car was bought.

the T bucket has a 283 power pac w/ 4 speed and rear end out of a 58 vette

the one in the wings is a 1967 chevelle SS 396 4 speed the car is complete the motor is sitting on the stand waiting to be put back together I haave all the original emblems but the SS hub caps

I found this car in 1985 in a pasture with cow poop running down the door windows the car is complete .... just needs a front clip.. I gave $250.00 in 1985 and a 300 mile round trip dragging a trailer to get it.

It's not a hot-rod now, but my 1955 Chevy Nomad was when I first got it running in 1969. I put in a built 327, Muncie 4 speed, and 4:11 positraction. It would really smoke the 12" wide tires I ran on the back. It had a bright yellow paint job with black tuck-n-roll interior and was a pretty fast car for an 18 year old kid.

After I got married it sat mostly unused in the carport for about 10 years. When I finally decided to do something with it, I noticed that every Nomad I saw was a modified car. Just to be different, I restored it back to factory original, right down to a set of original 1955 headlamps. It took me 9 years, and restoration was completed in 1994. It has a 265 V-8 with 4-barrel, Powerglide automatic transmission, power steering and brakes, plus a host of other goodies that make it a highly optioned car.

It has been judged 3 times at Classic Chevy Club International events. They use a 1,000 point judging sheet, and it scored 976, 978, and 983, winning first place each time in the 1955 Restored Driven class and also winning a coveted Platinium Award each time.

The wife thinks I should sell it so I can retire from work, but somehow I just can't bear the thought of parting with a car I've owned for 39 years!

Alas, no pictures except those in my head. 1968 Chevy Nova. Started life as a small block 307. But with a "slight" boring, new cam, holley carb, edelbrock intake, headman headers, exhaust bypass, regeared tranny and posi rear, it could fairly fly. We thought we were getting something by buying hi octane fuel at SoCal Racing Fuels. Funky silver paint job made it a sleeper until I fired it up.

We had a strip on Terminal Island called "Brotherhood". It was run by a fellow called Big Willie. He kept you in line and probably kept more than a few of us alive (though youthfull exhuberance did occasionally rear it's head on the street). Run against the clock or someone else, you're choice.

Shawn, I can't live without a Jeep. I have the two Wranglers and my wife drives a Cherokee. They go and go and are easy to work on. The '89 YJ has a 1" body and 2 and 1/2" suspension with 30" tires. The same goes for the Rubicon but that has 33" tires on it. The Rubicon has the .410 gears to pull the taller tires while the YJ has nasty .307 gears- You just have to get that TJ back! :D --------Sixgun

Ok guys I have to admit I'm a bit of a sucker for a classic car or truck. I cut my teeth on my dad's 55, 56, and 57 Chevys and my uncle's Chevelle. So I've been a car guy since I was little. I just recently sold the 69 Chevy 1/2 ton stepside that I drove to high school.

Basswrangler that is a good lookin' S10, I always wanted one with a small block in it. :D  :D

Thanks lever-4-life, I went with a built Turbo 350 & NP205, If I did it again I would probably go with a manual trans. The auto has been flawless though, but a bit long making for a pretty short driveline.

Not a hot rod, yet.
Will get a 1974 Aussie Hemi 6 265ci (straight six hemi)
in front of a T5 trans, vintage disc brakes in front.
Will build a front bumper and 3 sided bed to make a
vintage style (wrecker) heavy duty truck.

Projects on hold until cash flow improves and I have enough levers.

I SO wish I'd known about those when I had my '72 Valiant. My parents bought it in '78 and it went to me as my first car in '88-89 when they bought a new car. Slant 6 225ci, baby stuff tan, 4 drs, white vinyl top, NOT the car a kid in HS wanted to be seen in. Wish I had it back though...

Thanks for the advise... too much time working in a tire-shop... came to rely on floor jacks for quick work. She was almost 2 when her Mom took this pic... she likes to help me with the cars. I can't wait to get her behind a Levergun or a SAA.

Locally... they are getting ready for the annual cruise-in. Just last week I saw a burgundy 66 GTO, and also a mint White 66 two-door Bonneville... beautiful cars.

My Truck, 5/4 Ton, 4x4 M715 built in 1968 by Kaiser Jeep Corporation.

They were built for the Army in the 60s as a replacement for the Dodge M37 3/4 Ton 4x4, itself a sort of updated version of the WWII "Power Wagon." The military was interested in saving money by purchasing lightly modified "off the shelf" commercial vehicles, and the Kaiser M715 was the winning bid. In the 70s and 80s the government bought Dodge and Chevrolet commercial pickups with slight modifications.

It has a 230 cu in OHC straight six, notorious for timing chain wear and oil return problems. This particular engine has the improved head with larger oil return passages. The transmission is a Warner 4 Speed, and it has a two-speed transfer case and 5.87:1 ratioed Dana 60 axles driving 16" military omni-directional tread tires. Floorboarded, it may get 62 mph, with the front hubs unlocked. I usually drive it about 50 mph on the highway, but I usually don't drive it. This year so far I've put maybe 80 miles on it, and last year it saw a little less than 300 miles.

At about 12 MPG at 50 mph, it's going to sit some more. :)

The two on the left and in front of the T Bird are mine - thank you. I am not in the picture. This may be the only one of me that day.

got lucky in high school. My older sister and I talked my dad into buying a 1970 Chevelle SS396, automatic trans, cranberry red, black stripes on the hood, cowl induction .... a real classic and fun to drive, sure got a lot of drooling looks everywhere we went. He was going to buy a plain ole '70 Chevelle and had it ordered, but after 3 months it still wasn't delivered. So my sister and I (and the sales guy) put some squeeze on my dad and he went for the SS396 sitting on the car lot.

here's a few pictures. (OBVIOUSLY these are not of the actual car we owned, but ours looked just like this one).
