Today I have real boots on...first time since April,29. So thats a red letter day for me.
Pt is ok... I started walking a mile or more daily. I drive one of the boys to town for football anyway and figured that rubber track needed some taxpayer to wear it out. Got the wife out too.
Once I stand the pounding I'd like to try a 5k this fall...got to have goals!
I sorta lost my appetite and lost about 30 pounds while I was laid up.
silly me..I am eyin my tack room and the big paint. Maybe in September?

I hear ya! Wearin' flip flops and shorts got old PDQ! Makes me feel like some kinda trailer trash lowlife.
I'm with ya on the horse deal, too. I go out and graze ole Sally in the yard and mess around with her when I get a chance, and I keep getting tempted to climb on her. If she weren't so darned quick, I'd probably already be riding, but she ain't the kinda horse you just waller around on-she'll get out from under you.
The other day, some kid that's boarding her where I have her during my recuperation was needing help trimming his horse, and couldn't figure it out. It darn near killed me just showing him how to put the hoof between your knees. I was afraid I was gonna stuff out a coupla discs! If this is what I have to look forward to, I've finally found something I'm afraid of-dying of old age.
Feel free to shoot me before I get too darn old to saddle my own horse!

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. Psalm 1

My appetite really diminished, too, but seems to have come back with a vengeance! I was hoping to drop a lot of this fat before I got back into shape to do something. I'm definitely not there yet, though! My aunt needed help taking apart and relocating a little pre-fab storage shed, and I was the only one she had to help her. I was nearly crippled by the next day. Nearly every muscle in my legs was killing me. I seem to be chewing a lot less tobacco, though.

Glad you are mending well. You have been in my prayers. My mule is very docile and I can approach him at any time, eating or not. However, he is a belgium cross mule and at 1600#, I have to keep in mind that at any time, he could clobber me good. I keep a hand on him, or stay against him when I am cleaning his stall but to date, he is more interested in trying to tip the wheel barrel over than to worry about kicking me. He is a nipper and when he wants something bad enough, he tries to resort to that. He has stepped on my foot, and has pulled me over on lead, but otherwise, I have been very lucky. All you others be careful out there and mind your aches and pains too.

The key is to not let the mule realise he's bigger than you, or that he can hurt you. Ever see a 165 lb. coach make a 300 lb. lineman cry? Same thing. It's all mental.

Ya''ll are bout to get to me. I had to sell my horses a few years ago after my second back surgery. My wife said she wasn't going to feed and clean stalls just so I could look at them. Sold them and my saddle so I wouldn't be tempted to try again. I sure do miss working cows for folks. Reckon I just got to old to try again.
Good luck with the healing.

I'll trade ya wives! I need one that cleans stalls and is willing to learn to shoe them. I about crapped the other day, when I saw what shoes cost at the feed store, the other day.

I was shooting for September... so how about Nov 16? Been back on old Zeke a few times this week.
That first mounting took a bit of mental control on my part... I have not been confident that the ankle would hold up to getting off in a hurry.
That paint horse of mine... leave him in a pasture for 6 months and he's just like the day you put him up. We will start working on getting him fit over this hopefully mild winter.
Thanks for all the prayers and good thoughts guys.
