I’ve seen a few of these over the years, mostly chambered for the .32 Rimfire cartridge. They must have been popular as boys rifles.

Most of the examples I’ve seen had not been cared for and had bores that really had not been cared for.

I finally found one in .22 LR with a pristine bore!

My dad bought one around 1932 and shot it 50 - 100 times a week at least until he left for college in 1940. He shot alot of shorts and longs for the economic savings. The chamber is worn oval from the short shells so a Longrifle would split on the rim and spit back. I will say with a short I could hit a 20 ga shotshell on the head at 30 yards when I could see more than not and a few woodchucks fell to it from headshots.
A gunsmith worked on it about 55 years ago and got it shooting standard velocity LR without issue but he reminded me the High velocity shells came out the year they stopped making the Model 4 so he said don't shoot them.
Mine is cared for but it was shot plenty and I thought about relining it due to chamber wear but my kids aren't into the history so I will keep it all my days and they can deal with it when I'm gone.

I've wanted one of these for a number of years. Certainly not a need, so I am waiting for the right deal. I too have seen many where the bore looks more like a sewer pipe than a gun barrel.

The #4 was considered a boy's rifle, but not nearly as cheaply made as the smaller #6! I see the same as you Scott as to most being pretty used up and not cared for over the years. But I also saw more in .22 than in .32 around my area.
I gave up searching for one until maybe 15 years ago when my friend and Guild engraver Bob Evans had his personal #4 for sale, and I was lucky enough to be there when he put it out for sale! I snatched it up quickly, and wont ever sell mine!

They are nice little rifles I've had two 32 Rimfires. This one is near new and has mirror bore. I need to make some ramset charges for it . Sure wish somebody would make a run.

A friend of mine back in the 1970's had one converted to 32-20, but back then I was a kid and anything that wasn't the most powerful or highest capacity or whatever didn't impress me. He sold it at some point and I wish I'd been smart enough to be the buyer...

Been chomping at the bit to shoot it. But at $200 a box of 50 its just not gonna happen. I can however make a few Ramset charges try it sometime.

I shot 50 rounds offhand this morning at 4 inch plates at 25 yards. Not surprised that the sights were dead on. Remington standard velocity ammo seems to be very accurate. Ignition and ejection was flawless.

It really mashes the rim.
