I never did like to swim....

Post by AJMD429 »

.
A patient of mine died of this infection about 25-30 years ago. College kid went with her fiance to hike in the mountains and evidently that's all it took.

Anything deadly is 'creepy' but somehow it seems MORE creepy when it is an AMOEBA...

I'm not at all convinced it is worsening due to 'climate change' though - probably we are just better at diagnosing it now.

I’m sure they’ll come up with a vaccine for it.

I’ve personally viewed this organism under the microscope once. Unfortunately the child patient did not survive. The amoeba is spread through bird poop in stagnant warm water. Taking water up the nostrils to the sinuses allows this motile protozoan to migrate to the brain, as in it the way children like to jump into water repeatedly.

I can swim, but I tend to avoid it. Amoeba in stagnant freshwater and flesh eating Vibrio bacteria in halide containing coastal water. Nope.

It is crazy how little things like this can kill us.

On account of my love for fishing both wading and from a boat , I tried to learn to swim and float . Couldn't do either so I bought a nice lightweight life vest for the boat and SOSpenders for wading in lightweight waders,

Not sure if it was the same pathogenic microbe cited but it hasn't been too long ago a child died and the exposure was supposed to be a municipal splash pad. Prior to that tragedy a lady died from snorting on one of those sinus flushing pots. Must be resilient critters to survive in water disinfected with 1+ p.p.m./m.c.l. free chlorine.

Some critters are impervious to chlorine. That includes some of the nastier ones.
