Never saw one of these before, and I have a lot of Ruger single action revolvers…!
Turns out that Ruger put in a ‘safety lock’ to comply with some state regulations, I guess…
Saw this on a Gunblast post from a ways back – https://www.gunblast.com/Ruger-NV45ACP.htm
At least it is unobtrusive.

They put that lock on all of the New Vaquero's, but I don't know if the other models have it or not. I recently bought a SBH Bisley 44 mag, and most recently a 2024 year Blackhawk 45 convertible. I have not had the grips off of either one. I hope it's not on there. I have not heard of one inadvertently locking up, but I guess the possibility exist.
Some of the other New Models had them too. Easy to remove if you take out the mainspring then you just need to make a little strut for the mainspring to rest on. Much less problematic than the S&W nonsense.
My 50th Anniversary 357 had one, I drilled it out from the blind side with a 3/8 bit. It uses a different (shorter) strut and spring than the original configuration.
If I was to come up with a seat for it I'd try for something that would take the original parts, the short strut/spring has a slightly different feel in use.
Lawyers! While often misquoted and misattributed "first kill all the lawyers" is as prophetic as Nostradamus or Orwell.

Yes, the 50th flat top, has the lock. Mine still has it.
