Scott T - I was able to use the chronograph this morning
Got the Range early enough that I was able to chrono 4 loads before it got too dark and started raining. The chrono works great!! Thank you my friend. It is appreciated.
45 Colt Linebaugh Ruger 8" barrel
7 feet from miuzzle to chronograph
#454424 .452" Winchester Large Pistol Primers
4.0 gr. Bullseye Average of 10 shots
648.9 fps
5.0 gr. Bullseye Average of 10 shots
713.3 fps
8.5 gr. Green Dot Average of 10 shots
1082.2 fps
230 gr. .45 ACP hardball
16.0 gr. Blue Dot Average of 10 shots
1184.7 fps
The 4 gr. Bullseye load is just real pleasant to shoot. Like shooting wadcutters in .38 Special. Accuracy is good from this gun. Have not tried it in other pistols yet.

I'll bet that one's a light show at dusk with all that Blue Dot.

I may be. I have not tried it. Nothing much beats my .357 125 gr. load for a light show.

Hi Jim. If you were looking for the same "feel" as your load above, but shooting 200-grain LRN-FP bullets, would you use the same 4.0 grain load of Bullseye?

Yes. I have, but with a 230 gr. .45 ACP Roundnose bullet over 4.0 gr. Bullseye.Ysabel Kid wrote: ↑Sat May 09, 2026 7:44 pm Hi Jim. If you were looking for the same "feel" as your load above, but shooting 200-grain LRN-FP bullets, would you use the same 4.0 grain load of Bullseye?
Using that light of powder charge in the big Colt case, be sure to double-check or even triple-check the charges before you seat the bullet.

Jim,
230 gr. .45 ACP hardball
16.0 gr. Blue Dot Average of 10 shots
1184.7 fps
Regarding this load, what kind of crimp did you use? That's a fairly stout load, and I assume there's no crimping groove on the 230 Hard ball, I was just curious is you had any bullets jump the crimp?
Or did you just seat them far enough down to get a little bit of roll crimp turned down? Just curious.

I use the Lee Collett Crimp die and crimp in the middle of the bullet, just about the same depth as in an ACP case. I have not had any jump the crimp.
