Win model 94 in 30/30 1896
Went to Colby KS gun show couple weeks ago and picked a model 94 in 30/30. it has 28" barrel half round half octagon with button mag with a very good bore. At one time it had a Lyman receiver sight as it shows where screw holes were filled. Whoever did it did a very good job and is barely noticeable. Loaded up 3 rounds with 28.0 gr of AA 2520 with a 180gr FNGC. I always start at 25 yards as these 80 year old eyes see a lot better through a scope rather than open sights. was super happy with the results.
. Got 20 more rounds loaded up and weather permitting will move out to 50 and 75 yards.
Hope the old eyes hold up. Sorry about the double pictures

Yep, we need to see a picture of the gun. Those oldies often still shoot pretty good. Several years ago, I purchased a 1898, Model 94, with a 26" round barrel. I did have to fix a couple of things on it, but it works great now. Sometimes those really old ones need a new magazine spring, and once I replaced mine, it ran flawlessly. And my front sight was too low, I don't know how the previous owner that actually used it, must have aimed. Replaced the front sight with a taller one, and I am golden. I remember shooting a doe on the run at about a 100yards with it, a few years ago. The old gun was 120 years and still dropping deer as good as a brand new one.
It's fun to hunt with an old gun, like that. While I am hunting with one, I often wonder what the original owner used it for when it was new. Just think about it, someone owned your gun, before Teddy Roosevelt made his charge up San Juan Hill.

You've got an absolute dandy of a 94 by your description. Congratulations. Half-octagon half-round barrels and button magazines give me the shakes.
