Robert Duvall Crossed The Great Divide

Post by JimT »

He was 95 and had a long good run. I do wonder if John Taffin and some of our other friends welcomed him.

A buddy of mine texted me a couple hours ago, said he was listening to an expose' about Mr Duval.
Apparently he was a Navy brat. He joined the Army, barely qualified with a rifle.
I'll always remember him from Apocalypse Now, his line of 'I love the smell of napalm in the morning ' is probably what most folks remember.

Sad to see the last great ones fade out of the public eye. Almost forgotten as the person not the character, remembered perhaps as a legend, while close friends and family are the only ones to also witness the inevitable sunset of greatness

He can finally go rest in that little stand of trees called Clara's Orchard.

He'll no longer need that "Therapeutic paper". Probably pure heaven for an old cowboy.

I feel like his best was in "Lonesome Dove", but he really did do a lot of stuff over the years, like "Lucky Ned Pepper" in True Grit and Boo Radley in "To kill a Mockingbird". I loved him in "Apocalypse Now". And he did a bunch more, he will be missed, that's for sure.

He was definitely my favorite actor! You'll done mentioned bunch of his best. Lonesome Dove & Open Range was his masterpiece IMO of Likes! The part he played as Robert E Lee was outstanding in God's & Generals! And come find out his mother was a blood relative of Lee. I heard him say on an interview that Lonesome Dove was his personal favorite, kinda most proud of it! Second Hand Lions was one most unique movies I ever saw, brilliantly different and interesting! I never saw a part he played i didn't like!
He said way back he only worked in Hollywood, his home was Virginia, at least at that time. Not sure where he lived in recent years.
"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life"

"Better drawdown Alvin!"
"If you gotta shoot, shoot don't talk"
Conservative since day one and until the last!

His father was an admiral. I have enjoyed so many of his roles over the years, but my favorite is his first: Boo Radley in "To Kill a Mockingbird."

He'll be missed.

He always did a good job in any movie he was in. Gene Hackman was like that, too.
Morgan Freeman is another who gives good value for money.

I liked him in Lonesome Dove, Open Range, and Second Hand Lions particularly.

May he RIP.
