And if so - how is the approval process going so far?

I locked in some suppressors through Silencer Shop a couple of days before but am not approved yet --- was meaning to Form 1 a couple of shotguns and "tactical" semi auto carbines ---- but need to go get electronic fingerprints done to streamline it

Curious about any of you folks' experiences?

To keep it levergun focused --- i have a couple of silencers already on AR's but am looking forward to a 22 can on a Henry levergun --- its pretty quiet already with CCi "Quiet" ammo -- but that stuff is only 750 fps --- and the AR with CCI subsonic is quieter
--- so i am thinking the Henry with subsonics will be the sweet spot ----- i am probably going to abandon the "quiet" ammo due to a fear of squibs out of a carbine length barrel
-- worst case scenario and i honestly forget the ammo being used but i recall working at a gun range part time in my 20's when an old Winchester pump .22 came in with the barrel literally stacked with .22's because of 1 squib to start the party -- the guy said -- "This thing wont hit anything ! "

One of the most unobtrusive and easily set up suppressed leverguns is to get a Ruger 96/22 and simply replace the barrel (takes 5 minutes with a hex-wrench) with the 'Operative' integrally suppressed 10/22 barrel. They fit, but require a second extractor cut (another 5 minutes with a small file) due to dual extractors. Any stock that fits a 'bull barrel' will do, although I just bought a one-inch round-base router bit and carefully milled my factory wood stock to fit the barrel.

I preferred the lever action to the 10/22 due to less action-noise, and to the Savage because I prefer leverguns vs bolt actions.

The 77/22 barrels do NOT exchange with 10/22 ones though - different shank length.

Any integrally suppressed barrel for 10/22 should be adaptable to a 96/22 (or 96/22 Magnum perhaps).

I bought two 96/22's, two 96/22Mag's, a 96/22Hornet, and a 96/44Mag.

Converted one of the 10/22's to integrally suppressed, and one of the 96/22Mag's to 17 HMR. Love the ease of barrel swaps in those guns.

The 96/17HMR is a real tack driver, too.

I’m holding off for a bit as I have 3 already but when I went through the original Silencer Shop process, I wrote it up as an article for my blog. I did a follow up article a few years later after buying more.

I’m hoping to have another .22 RF and a .30 cal can soon which will be good as I would like to write an updated article on the new process.

I can say for sure the first time I did it to that last time I did it had a lot of changes and they were for the better. All of my wait times were very high. 200+ days and the new system should be much faster.

As a direct response, a .22 LR lever gun with a can is a good time. I have the Chiappa LA322 threaded model as it’s a lot of fun. I just use the CCI standard velocity since they are subsonic anyway and are available.

I have not jumped yet, but I am thinking about it. The $200 tax stamp was never really the issue for me, I hated to deal with the red tape, etc. You guys that have them, did you do a trust, or individual form?

We have a local gunsmith that makes an integrally suppressed barrel for various guns, especially the .22's like the Ruger 10/22 and some bolt guns. His guns are a lot quieter than the screw on cans, but more expensive, and of course you are married to that one gun, pretty much.

But I also thought about getting a 30 caliber one, that could also be adapted to a .223 AR 15.

I got my first one about 15 years ago. Took 14 months and had to go the trust route. Y2K picked up one last year, no trust, and took 3 days to get approved. I've heard the wait is back up to months since they are clogged with so many requests right now, but that will thin out. I use the trust to allow me to transfer mine to my son, also a trust member, upon my death with essentially no paperwork. I think I would still recommend that angle if you want to leave them to anyone.

I never really wanted to deal with all the paperwork, let alone the cost. About the only sbr type thing Id really be interested in is a shoulder stocked SA revolver, and the reporting to travel interstate with it takes some of the wind out of the sails.

If suppressors became totally unregulated and you could build them at home, maybe,...but I load extra-light loads for many things making them pretty easy on the ears for close range small game and varmint shooting, and shoot some std vel 22 lr, shorts and CBs in rifles, they arent too obnoxious, so not really much desire. Im not much fun.

My first purchase was through SilencerCentral last year and was for a .30 caliber rated up to my .300 Weatherby ---- its big but handles the .223 stuff adequately but looks a bit out of proportion unless its on an SBR length ensemble ---- its "hearing safe" but still has the crack --- if youre on a small acreage, the neighbors will know youre shooting something --- but i like the versatility

They were running a "get a .22 LR K-can with purchase of a big can" promotion deal and i got one of those and thats actually what i use the most ---- have another longer one in process through them because .22's are so much fun --- but the short K style can is very quiet with a 16" AR-22, -- but a little noisy in front of my MK-4 Ruger pistol

Thx Doc --- as mentioned above i have a short screw on LR suppressor now and another bigger one on the way --- but an integral barrel for my takedown 10/22 is on my list of "Must haves soon " - Gemtech seems to be a popular choice --- my favorite 10/22 in inventory is a target model from about 15 years ago though (maybe 20 ) -- with the laminate stock and spiral fluted barrel --- i'd rather get that hammer forged barrel threaded than replace it with a possibly inferior one - its my favorite rifle -- and for a semi-auto .22 , freaky accurate -- about .75 MOA for me at my best but .35 with a benchrest buddy who knew what he was doing - with rather pedestrian CCI Green tag ammo



As mentioned above - the big .30 can looks a tad out of balance on a Colt carbine --- but the .22 can to the right is not much bigger than some flash hider apparatus's ive seen




And thats the target .22 that i cant stand the thought of using a different barrel -- Ruger was really on their game when they specce'd these ---- theres not a lot of 'smiths in my area though and the downtime is a POA to send it off

its irksome to all of us im sure but at the end of the day -- weve only got a limited amount of days to enjoy shooting, hunting, --- hell even laughing, arguing -- etc

Bill, I'd love to see them all hit $100, and be as common on firearms as mufflers are on cars.
