Tad Breezy Here

Post by COSteve »

We've had quite a bit of down slope wind the last couple of days from Ft Collins to Denver centered in the mountains and the front range area west of I-25. In Boulder, the winds hit 109 mph and in Breakenridge ski area the winds hit 124 mph! Thankfully, in our valley, even though we're right up against the front range, our winds haven't hit 50 mph.

Because of the dryness, Ecel Energy has cut power to vast areas of the front range including most of Boulder. They're now forecasting that the winds will continue until Saturday.

Those are some crazy winds all right! Glad the grid supplier is trying to be responsible.

Brekinridge - don't even have to get off the lift for the ride of your life.

Lot's of strong wind here in MT also. Trees down across power lines etc. Never saw MPH although I'm sure it was reported on local news.

When I lived in Trinidad CO going to school a bunch of us were out at the schools gun club one day doing some maintenance work on the grounds. We had a kid that was maybe 5'8" and 90 lbs. We rigged a 10x12 tarp with ropes to his climbing harness. We held the tarp as he ran up over the berm , wind filling the tarp and he flew from the pistol range over the trap field ,over the skeet field and down the road about a half mile! He landed in a heap but none the worse for it. Colorado does get breezy!

My daughter lost power in Boulder for a day and a half. It was shut off as a precaution but damage to lines prevented it from being restored promptly after the winds passed.

Fortunately she was able to take her flight to our home Friday. 🙂

Our son also lives in Boulder and he also lost power so he came down the 36 miles to our valley and stayed with us instead of toughing it out in a dark house. He came Wednesday afternoon as NIST where he works also lost power, and ended up staying until Sunday morning as his power came back on Saturday morning. It was nice having him here as we got time to just knock around together.
