Spur of the moment purchase TODAY !

Post by 6pt-sika »

Was in the local gunshop today about lunchtime sitting there eating pizza . When I spied a Ruger Blackhawk that the owner ordered for stock about 8 months ago . I had kinda forgotten he had it , but had liked it ever since he got it in !

It was one of last years Blackhawks with the old style grip in 41 MAG with a 6.5" barrel !

They were asking $425 for it and after looking at it for awhile I asked what was the best price . About 5 minutes later he came back with a carved price and I got it OTD for a few dollars less then he showed on the tag after tax and call in !

Sure didn't need it , but I have a bunch of others I can say the same thing about !

Well let me ponder that :D

I already have a Marlin 1894FG and 1894CCL both in 41 MAG . One or two sets of dies and at least 2 bullet moulds with a very decent inventory of jacketed bullets !

I think I'll be alright

Congradulations.

That's a fine looking revolver.

I am confused about the grip you mentioned, but thats not suprising, since I have never got Ruger single actions grip styles really staight anyway. What type of grip style is it anyway? How old is that revolver? It looks like is was built last year.

Regardless of all these technicalities, I'm sure you will enjoy it. Truely an affordable revolver that is built to last.

 For the revolver. That's nice!

 For being able to eat lunch at a gun shop. Can't do that at Nuckols!

MOST EXCELLENT - I use to work part time in a gun shop in Virginia, two actually at different times. The first, on Fridays after closing, we would gather around the barbers chair (it was a rather eclectic shop) and have a whiskey or two and solve the world problems. We ate in there all the time. LOVED the atmosphere. The second was very upscale with range and training school. We ate there too but no whiskey after closing :x

Congrats on your purchase. Looks to be an excellent companion sidearm for woods walking/stalking.

Cool - and it came with it's own panasonic battery to boot! What's that for?

J/K - I love Ruger Blackhawks! Never considered "need" to have anything to do with gun collecting!!!

Sean
Sean,
It is the current New Model Blackhawk. The grip is the standard XR3-RED style with the new cheaper plastic grips on it.
Most likely there is an "L" on the end of the model number which indicates the grip frame has the key lock inside. If no lock inside the grip, then it's one of the last pre-lock New Models with the new style grips on it.
Ruger began this transition about two years or so ago.

A long time ago, far far away there was a couple of gun shops that were so customer friendly we ate pizza there quite often. Both are gone now but the memories remain.

Just this afternoon after work I stopped by one of the gun shops in my area. I enquired about the availabillity of 4 5/8" Blackhawks in .41 Mag. (I need one to compliment my 1894 FG and 6 1/2" Blackhawk.) Although they had none in stock, I was quoted a very reasonable price. I am 90% certain I will be back tommorow to put one on lay away.

Good choice in caliber. I wish I had a CL.

After this one I have to look for S&W 57 and 58.

I hate addications.

I have several Rugers each in 4 different calibers. Havn't ever met a Blackhawk or Super Blackhawk I didn't like. The 41 Mag is a total serious round too, plenty of horsepower.

Ordered a leather holster for the 41 today .

I use a Galco high ride with my 4" 629 Smith and a Bianchi Black Widow with my Ruger SP101 in 327 Federal .

So I first looked at the Galco and Bianchi catalogs for something fitting of a Ruger Single action . They had some nice stuff in the C note range :o

So I think I'm gonna get one of Rugers holsters . Think they are unlined leather but for $38 they ain't bad !
