Added a couple of special order Marlin's to the safe

Post by jdad »

I had to get cull off a couple of rimfires, though.

Model 1892, 22cal, 26" octagon barrel, circa 1908-1910 ,and great front and rear sights.

Marlin 1893 Deluxe, 30-30,TAKEDOWN, 1906 DOM, 26" half octagon, half mag, and sling studs. This one is early enought that I am going to letter it and see what the records show.

That rear sight looks like just the way to deal with a problem I have of excessive un- co-ordination

It's a Marbles M3"S". MM93 explained to me that any of the Marble's sights that came back and up the comb were labeled "S", for "special".

Are the sling swivels on the 1893 factory original? Never seen them
like that before. I have 2 old Marlin rifles with sling swivels & they
are different than what is on your gun. I know they are correct.
Very nice 1892. How is the bore? That is the critical factor when I
look at a 1892. It has a interesting tang sight. I have seen those
on 1895 Marlins before. I beleive you could also use those on the
savage rifles. Congrats on the pair! Jorgy
By the way I have coming on Friday I a very nice early (116XXX)
1894 38/40 TD. About a 95% gun. Was tickled pink to get that
one. Very scare rifle.

Jorgy,
I have one of those tang sights marked for Stevens rifles, but they come back about a 1/2" short, when mounted on a Marlin. The 1892's bore is very good, not perfect, but a whole lot better than most I have seen.

I had Vall look at the sling swivels and he thinks they may be factory, just by the way the front is mounted. I'm getting it lettered, so hopefully I'll know for sure. I have a vernier tang sight that I'm going to mount and then see what this can do as a silhouette rifle.

The 1893 was a super deal. I really didn't think my bid was going to win it, but it closed while Tiger was playing his playoff round. I got real lucky.

Those are just beautiful. I really like the tang sight as most all others lay down 180 degrees the other way and beat the snot out of the comb. Do you know who made it. I'd like to see someone make that style now. I'd buy'em in a heartbeat.

These were called Marble's flexible "special" sights. If this was the regular style it would just be stamped "M3", but since it is this style is labeled "M3S". I've seen these for Stevens also, but not Winchester. It doesn't mean they didn't make them, but any "special" style seems to be rare.
