Moving Stinks!

Post by 2ndovc »

I've had three big moves over the years and I hate it. There's always things I can't find when I need them.
I'd thought I had unpacked all my handguns and placed them in the safes or the master bedroom for repelling boarders, but realized I hadn't seen a couple of 1911s, my National Match and Commander L.W. .
Some whack job friend of my ex has been sending threats and calls, though he has no idea what happened or is it any of his business. I told him to 'Get lost Fat Man' and he got even more obnoxious. The guy is just a blowhard, overweight with a heart condition and not too bright. Also a flaming liberal. You know the type, all threats and no action. I have no doubt that one good rap on the beak and he will collapse like a paper bag, but being the prudent type I figured it was time to change out my EDC.
I feel quite comfortable carrying my Sig 365 daily, but my thoughts kept leading me back to my Commander. When I couldn't find it, I was really getting PO'd but then I found my Simply Rugged IWB holster I'd bought for it, I finally remembered the backpack I'd put those two .45s in.
Carried it all day yesterday and it felt good. I grew up shooting 1911s and nothing feels better in my hand than a good .45ACP! I've been obsessed with pocket size pistols for years, but I think I'm over that for now at least.

My last move was in 1979. And that's going to be my last move.

I don't see it happening again. As much as I love the thought of moving down south, there's no way I can deal with the summer months.
I can retire in 5 years and going to spend my time sailing and working on this old farmhouse. :D

I hear ya!

My last move was 10 years ago after a horrific divorce.

Don't want a repeat of either! :D

I'm only planning on one more move... and it'll just be a partial... as soon as I hit the Lottery, I'm buying a sailboat and sail around the world. Nothing that needs more'n 2,3 or 4 crew. Unless it's a stupid big Lotto! Bucket list item.

Our last move will be into the over-55 neighborhood when we're 70. That's when the last grandchild will leave home. I hate moving, simply because the Army made us move every three years or so. It was a major pain.

Hope not to move, but increasing land value around me and it being a PIA taking care of a big house as a currently single guy has me thinking about it a bit

I really just want a low maintenance A-frame close to my preferred mountain bike destination in NW Arkansas - but Angel Fire NM has also been a thought. Would put me very close to the Whittington center there and land away from the direct vicinity of the ski lodge is still cheap.

I’m just thinking out loud though - I’m already enough of a hermit as it is.

Great looking leather you got there - I recently replaced my 15 year old Bianchi belt with a new one and miscalculated the size- I still have a couple of inches to lose as it is on the last perforation and the 1 3/4” width feels very secure, but doesn’t fit my Galco 1911 holsters.

That said, the 2.75” Ruger 6 shooter I posted about in another thread as recently coming into position of came with a nice piece of leather, and I wore it today. Just standard 4’ o clock on the hip but it was comfortable under an untucked flannel. A different feeling than the Glock 26 “pea shooter” I usually carry appendix for sure.

If you have texts or emails or voice mails from the existing whacko friend keep them just in case something escalates.
I still have stuff in in boxes from 1994! Nothing I need but I know where it all is.

Jason, in todays world only a total idiot would make threats on anything electronic that could easily be recorded and saved. If You live in a township make a Sheriffs report or if You have local police go to them. We had trouble for years with an individual and the Sheriffs department would show up like the Texas Rangers. Every time I see a local Sheriff I Thank Him/Her for their service. Stay safe.

Way ahead of you guys. Made a copy and sent it to my cousin, former judge and currently the Chief of staff of the prosecutors' office in the county where the creep lives. :D
He even knows the guy. Doesn't like him, but knows him.

Kids have started "suggesting@ that we move to Northern Nevada to be closer to them. They have the usual reasons, we're getting older, what happens when one of us passes, we could sell our place and buy one there for less increasing our nest egg. The last isn't really a concern.

They have suggested senior citizen communities. My wife has two come backs. One, too far from the ocean. And two, who wants to live around a bunch of old people.

Happy you found them Jason!

We've been in this house longer than the other three combined (after I left home and got married). But being empty-nesters now, we've been talking about making a move to a ranch house. Between my back and my wife's knee, doing stairs isn't getting any easier.

I get it. I had been looking for a large(ish) ranch style house when I found this place. One of the big bonuses was that it's already set up for living on the first floor when it comes to that.

My dad's FL place is an over 55 complex. First time down there I called it "Old people storage.". He got a good chuckle out of that. His lady friend, not so much.
