Which, BTW, is an illegal tax according to the State Constitution. Just like charging a nickle or dime for a grocery bag.

Blaine, the idea of spending money on youth anti-violence education and mental health issues makes sense, but the rest of Mello's thinking is pure horse poop, and he obviously wants to make firearms ownership harder for low-income citizens. You sure this twit isn't from San Francisco?

No offense, but how many millions and millions have been spend in other urban areas on exactly that. Seattle, or Chicago, of Baltimore for example. It's just throwing away good money after bad.

Seattle did exactly the same tax....3 years ago??....The last couple of gun stores moved out of the city limits and violence has grown much, much, much worse. It's demographics, not guns or social experiments.

Politicians are constantly equating activity with accomplishment. It is an easy mistake for one who knows nothing to make. It is easy for one who has accomplished something to tell the difference.

A further development in this story is a Third Level Tax on ammo that can be used in Assault Weapons. You may or may not have hear that in Washington, every single semi-automatic long rifle is now classified as an "assault rifle"....this Commie State is going to out-Cali Kali pretty soon. Before Inslee, it was liberal, but still a good place to be.

Better yet, QUIT spending money on 'welfare' and subsidizing unwed pregnancy. It is almost exclusively kids-without-dads doing the crime. Treat 'drugs' as an addiction not a crime, and put the gangs out of business by letting those determined to mess themselves up with drugs do it the same way others mess themselves up with alcohol; bought legally in stores instead of black market. Banning things just subsidizes gangs and the black market (...didn't we learn that with alcohol?).

We'd save money, and lives, if the Democrats quit subsidizing unwed pregnancy and the Republicans quit subsidizing drug dealing. :|

Unfortunately the electorate, just like the political class, is more interested in virtue-signaling than actually having safe streets or a stable society.

The ONE thing about drugs! Stop trying to finance everything off of the taxes on things such as marijuana. Taxing something to death gives the same result as prohibition. In California, they are making less than half the revenue from marijuana sales that they expected. The taxes are too high. Pun intended. Lower the taxes so that it is cheaper to buy it legally versus illegally.

My advice will go unheeded because the people running California are fools. There are good intelligent people in California, but they are not the ones in power.
