Sounds like Great Britain....but it is in the U.S.....(well, sort-of, if you consider New York part of the U.S.) :|

Socialist bastids can't really outright ban guns, so they start charging a felony to every little infraction, and *POOF* one more free man is now a slave.

Yes it does sound more like the UK, a guy stands up against scum and ends up in chains....
Your constitution is about as valid in NY as it is in England according to the socialist commissars there.

There may be more to the story, LEO friend from New England said the guy was a multiple convicted felon in possession of a gun.

That makes me feel a little better about it, as long as the 'felonies' were real crimes, and not the 'felony' of possessing a handgun or some such circular nonsense.

Probably more to story.
Grew up in western NY. Had a concealed permit, this was 40 years ago. The procedure then was to buy a firearm, get paperwork from dealer, travel to County office, have it added to your permit ( they called it a PERMIT to own a handgun!), go back to FFL and give them paperwork, then you could posess the firearm.

Hmmm.....I'm not hearing anything about the shooter having a prior record....

Here's a sort-of 'update' though... https://www.yourtango.com/2019324890/wh ... ow-in-jail

And an update with some good commentary on NY 'gun laws' - https://www.dailysignal.com/2019/06/20/ ... -own-home/

So not completing paperwork means prison time even if the gun is his by right and the constitution of the USA gives him the right to own it. Why should anyone register anything that they already own ? What is the registry required for ? It is not so nosey officials know what you have, it's so officials know where to send the Gestapo to collect what you legally have. Firearm registration is just one move away from firearm confiscation. When the UK government took our registered handguns and semi automatic rifles we had a choice, give them up or die in a hail of government bullets. Sadly, like Custer, we were too few against too many, only unlike Custer we knew it.
Recently an elderly English man killed a burglar with the burglar's own weapon, he too was arrested for murder, later released but now unable to return to his home because of threats from the burglar's family. It is a very strange world we all live in nowadays.
