Ammo for fighting against background checks.

Doctors for Sensible Gun Laws
"first do no harm" - gun control LAWS lead to far more deaths than 'easy access' ever could.

I read Mr. Nno's article. I believe he has missed the point being made by advocates of UBC that it is precisely the failure of state-by-state regulations that justifies their perceived "NEED" for a comprehensive Federal law. When you ask them why it is that places like Chicago, with strict controls has such a high crime rate....they immediately point to the "lax" controls in neighboring states allowing for firearms to be easily transferred into Chicago and used by Chicago citizens who wouldn't be committing crimes were it not for the "easily obtainable" guns coming in from outside the city. Likewise in Washington D.C. where EVERYBODY KNOWS it's the "lax" gun laws in Virginia and West Virginia that cause the good citizens of that District to commit crimes with "easily obtainable guns". Leftists don't want ANY firearm to transfer without documentation anywhere in the entire country because they understand that they can't get their hands on ALL guns until they know where ALL guns are.
What they always leave out of the conversation is the fact that their shiny new UBC laws are only going to be obeyed by people who, you know...OBEY THE LAW in the first place. Here's the next evolution coming that you haven't heard much about yet, but once UBC becomes law...you can bet this one follows:
Once UBC is in place, they will need to close the "transfer-by-theft loophole". That is...once every gun in your possession is documented, you will be forbidden from possessing ANY firearm not documented to be in your possession and YOU will be prosecuted if you allow any gun in your possession to be stolen. I have spent some time in an African country that no longer exists where such laws were enforced. These are "generational goals". Even the most looney Democrat knows it ain't gonna happen overnight, but they have time.
UBC is a pretty new toy in the undeveloped minds of politicians who are always satisfied with a "feel good" response, regardless of whether or not it makes sense.

The Socialists, nee Dems, are sneaky. In Washington people just voted in harsh assault weapon laws, what the fine print said was that NOW EVERY SINGLE SEMI-AUTO LONG GUN IS NOW AN ASSAULT WEAPON.

Blaine,
I'm old enough to remember fighting against a proposed ban on "Cheap Saturday Night Specials". It was being pushed in the United States Senate by Howard Metzenbaum (D-Ohio) and Ted Kennedy (D-Massachusetts). They had the media complex running stories about how cheap "pot-metal" handguns were flooding America's cities and how only a total ban on sale or possession of what THEY DEFINED as a "cheap Saturday night night special" would save our country. When the NRA read the bill...it turned out that their definition included Colt's Python, among other "Cheap" guns.
When we allow THEM to control the conversation and define the terms...we are starting out behind the curve.
"Assault Rifle", "Saturday Night Special", and how about "Arsenal" ?? Every time they discuss a new law banning the possession of an "ARSENAL", their definition would makes ownership of a brick of .22's, or enough shotgun shells to shoot a weekend tournament a felony.
Sadly, we aren't fighting people who have honest concerns and a sincere desire to lower crime and make America more safe. That's just the excuse. No, we are engaged in a conflict over the most fundamental right of all people. The God given RIGHT to protect yourself from criminals...AND TYRANTS, and that's what keeps them awake at night.

AND, the broadcast news and newpapers refuse to run the truth. All the idjits are giddy about all the "assault" weapons they got off the streets. I only have two "assault" murderers...a 1968 Browning .22 Auto, and a new take-down 10-22....
