Talking to a lobbyist today .....

#1 Post by wm » Tue Nov 13, 2018 8:42 pm

Big firearms guy who used to be a local legislator but now due to term limits is out of office and working as a lobbyist (representing farmers interests).

Anyway I was asking him about what to expect in the way of future gun control legislation both state wide and federal and he said something would be coming in every state and at the federal level as the Democrats see it as to their advantage in reaching independents who are worried about mass and random shootings.

I asked how best to blunt this and he offered what I thought was some good advice. He said write your legislator NOW not later so they have a mind set against it before it materializes and don't go off on a tangent about rights but rather focus the letter on dealing with the mental health issues the medical field is dropping the ball on. Half to 2/3rds of all firearms related deaths are suicides which is a very different issue from criminal misuse. The suicide rate is rising which makes it look like the firearms are becoming a bigger issue then they are. And the added benefit is it gives the GOP a issue to address in the ongoing debate about National Healthcare system.

Anyway take it for what you will but I thought it a new way to address an old problem.

(CDC says 36,252 Americans died from firearms in 2017 but of that number over 22,000 Americans committed suicide. The increase in firearms deaths is explained by the increase in suicides not by an increase in the misuse of firearms if you examine the CDC figures).

Good luck on that....maybe levergunners are different, but I've found that very few "gun owners" are willing to do ANYTHING beyond griping to fellow gun owners and making idle threats over dinner.

They would rather sit on their butts and fantasize about which guns to carry in their bugout bag after it all comes crashing down.

For those two lazy to write their legislators.....at least join the NRA and contribute what you can. EVERY gunowner can well afford the $35 a year PLUS at least $50 a year extra. Power comes in numbers and with those numbers come money, the root of every win, whether good or bad.---6

Thanks Griff ......at 64 I've learned a thing or two.

Money makes the world go 'round. It's an addiction like no other, if you let it.....money filters down from the ones with the most to the peons at the bottom, then back up again. Big business and politicians are smart and they have a way of filtering the loot back to them......The NRA knows money makes the world go 'round and there's a million politicians with their hands out willing to make the changes to our system, whether it's right or wrong....GIVE TO THE NRA....instead of buying that case of beer or maybe buy a $50,000 pick up instead of an $60,000 truck.

If you walk out that door with no money in your pocket, your nothing....nothing....the animal in people comes out when they see an easy rollover. I did not make the world this way, it's just the way our predecessors made it.....so I'll play that tune with a determination to win.

99% of all people make their own destiny...if your broke, that means you should not have bought that $60,000 pick up truck. I personally saw a family member get $400,000 in a settlement for something that he exaggerated on....and was broke in two years. I hear the crying from this guy whenever I run into him... 30 years later...."hey man, can ya help me out, I can't buy primers." I tell him to "take his trigger finger and scratch his azz."

I drove three vehicles my entire adult life....saved in the proper way...(winchesters and Colts!) never went on fancy vacations, never used a credit card....and retired comfortably at 62.

GIVE TO THE NRA UNTIL IT HURTS!!!!!------6

I can tell you with 100% certainty that pro-gun letters to Washington Senators are round filed and never answered. I'm a life member of the NRA and Second Amendment Foundation. Neither of which seemed interested in supporting the push against this horrible, horrible anti-gun iniative that the people, not the gubment, just shoved down our throats. Hopefully, they saved their money for legal action. I've mentioned it a couple times, but my 10-22 and Browning 22 Auto are about to become Assault Weapons. ANY semi-auto rifle is now an assault weapon.
So, Six and AJ...how much money did you send to the anti-gun initiative 1639? If this passes legal muster in the courts you can bet your EBRs and SSAs that you'll be seeing this "stuff" on your state's slate sooner rather than later.

Blaine,
I did not send nothing to that initiative 1639. Who do I send the money to? .....even if I did know who to send the money to and that name was NOT the NRA, they would not get nothing.

You know those commercials that show animals in cages and little kids with bloated stomachs...they too, can kiss where the sun don't shine....Both the left and the right will suck you dry of money and then go out to fancy banquets with themselves.

I have more to do than worry about issues from other states...that's why I give-till-it-hurts to the NRA and let them do what they know best....they are the only entity I trust. NRA members demand results and the NRA knows that. These other organizations are just that...organizations.....for themselves.

If your in a state that greatly diminishes your freedoms and rights, you have two options.....give to the NRA or move...or possibly a third option...stand and fight, even if that means you alone going to the state capital steps with a sign on your shoulders...are you willing to do that?

We don't have these issues in Pa...at least not now, but come hell or high water, we WILL be on those Capitol steps....and in numbers that are overwhelming because we will not pay the price of mentally deficient individuals or savages with genetic jungle memories.----6

Exactly. And I agree with you, sort of. If you have zero knowledge of and don't care what's happening in other states, just (excuse my French) STFU, Friend. You're lucky to be in a safe (at least for now) state. And please, don't assume you know what's best for me or comment on actions you have no idea about that I'm taking. It's easy for you to bloviate when your safe way behind enemy lines.

Communism plain and simple, its so deep it`s beyond must understanding to understand it.
To many sheep out there and they`ve dumbed down the young people to believe they`er BS , we`re headed for a big disaster if we don`t stop the BS that`s taking over the country.
These idiots are going to learn that the world is evil and there are people that want to regulate your life when its to late.
Remember what the Bible says about how Satan turn s everything upside down and that`s what we`re seeing, the old saying, when good men do nothing evil triumphs.

That does not apply to voting when there are half again as many Socialists as there are Good Men. Arizona just elected a hard left Socialist Senator. Riddle me that. TX almost elected a hard left socialist to replace Cruze. And so on and so on and so on.

There is one MAJOR difference between socialist/communist takeovers of the past and the modern desire to do the same. WE HAVE THE GUNS and the knowledge of what gun registrations/confiscations have done in the past to weak minded people who think everything will be OK.

The majority of democrats are stupid people and do what their leaders say. The right thinks for themselves. Plus............

................WE HAVE THE NRA....SO GIVE ....GIVE...THEN GIVE SOME MORE instead of hanging out in your favorite Starbucks sipping on some espresso and munching on a 2,000 calorie donut, along with some greasy fries, chicken back sandwiches, sautéed gizzards and livers, and chocolate ice cream all the time bloviating how nobody will help you.-----6

Blaine....Ha! I like that! I tell ya, the challenges keep getting easier with you. Everything I want to yank your chain, I just holler "yank!" and you come falling down! :D

In between chores, loading ammo, going to the store, etc, I had some free time so I did some research on your posts and one day three weeks ago you actually went 17 minutes without a post! Wow! Great life you have!
