POLITICS - JOIN THE NRA

#1 Post by Hobie » Wed Nov 05, 2008 8:52 am

I don't know who is a member and who is not. I am a life member of the NRA. I strongly believe that this is the one organization to which the Congress listens on this subject. While they don't always do what we, the members want, they are a powerful influence. If you don't like what the NRA does, become a voting member and change the board! Whichever, PLEASE, defend your gun rights and join the NRA today. If you voted and feel that you were disenfranchised by the uninformed, ignorant, or naive then you can only counter that with an NRA membership.

I just upgraded mine this morning to Distinguished-Life Member.
In cas someone doesn't know, if you are 65+ OR a disabled Veteran (any percentage) You can get a life membership for $375 instead of the $1000 it usually costs.

Upgrade your membership if you are already a member.

We are going to need their strength and power in the days to come. Remember, the NRA is feared by the left. The NRA cost Clinton his Democrat-controlled House in 1994. The left remembers this. Time to swell the ranks to over 6 million!!!

I upgraded from annual (actually I had paid 4 years in advance) to life a few months ago when the polls started showing O in the lead. Did several PVF donations also. One thing we can all do is spread the word to non forum members and get them to join the NRA also.

And as long as we're joining the NRA, we need to make THEM here OUR voice. NO MORE COMPROMISE. GO FOR THE THROAT AND FIGHT TO THE FINISH. They've sold us out too often to "reasonable controls" and other such PC garbage. If they'd take off the gloves and go hardline then they'd pick up a lot more members I'm sure. I, for one, am tired of their compromises and the way they "A" rate Democrats that sell them out. Several folks have mentioned this - Democrats with NRA "A" ratings that then vote, well, socialist. Surprise, surprise. Yes, join the NRA. But we need to start yelling, "NO MORE COMPROMISE." We can't afford to "play nice" nor can we afford to back our enemies.

Why would they listen? They are part of the Beltway Machine. THey make their money by making sure that the threat of gun control never goes away.

Yep. And you've got to be a member for five years before you can vote. So new members will have to wait. BUT we CAN use their same tactics - flood their e-mail and phone trees and mail boxes. Enough pressure and grassroots CAN change. All it takes is the political will and the mad dog rage to fight to the end. But can we hang onto the anger long enough to keep focused on obtaining our objective? Not likely. That's the sad part. Another red herring will be dragged in front of us and folks will forget what we're fighting for. Or maybe not. Time, of course, will tell.

We do indeed live in "interesting times".

I upgraded my membership to life a few months ago. I couldn't just sit back and do nothing with the election coming up but, at the sametime, I couldn't bring myself to support the party that had betrayed us so badly over the past several years. I agree that we need to support the NRA more than ever. If you are interested in upgrading they do have programs where credit card payments are made periodically to meet the new membership level. I paid in full because they needed cash for the elections. However now they will have ongoing needs so the credit card method would be very helpful. Every little bit helps. We need to be defended more than ever so just go do it guys.

Old Ironsites,

Rather than engage in personal attacks why don't you tell us what efforts you made during the election season to preserve our 2nd Amendment rights?

Me? I put my money where my mouth is and sent $1,000 to the NRA this election season. Yes some funds get used for management as in any organization. I my view the NRA staff is worth every cent they get paid. Without them our 2nd Amendment rights would be history. Until there is a better organization to carry on the fight they will get my dollars.

Dave, the attack wasn't personal, it is a simple statement of fact.

I am a Life Member, so I have a Right to complain about how my money is/has been misused.

If you want me to get personal, I'll go dig up some of my previous posts about Grand Appeaser Wayne (Vichy) LaPierre and how he stabbed Neil Knox and dedicated RKBA activists in the back. I'm more than happy to get personal about LaPierre.

I'm glad you have $1000 to send to the NRA PR firm. I don't. Funny how I didn't see much from the NRA on this election here in Indiana until the day before the election... and then it was only on a newspaper wrapper/bag. That was an effective use of money.

There is NO comprimise on RKBA. None - yet the NRA want's to be part of the Cocktail & Canape Compromise Coalition in the Beltway.

That doesn't fly with me. Never did.

I agree. It needs a thourough purging - just like the GOP... only it might actually be opssible to get new NRA leadership - unlike the GOP.

I wish I had all the individual contributions I have sent the NRA in the past several years, I would be a Life Memeber, and could treat at least one of you to that position as well. I turn 65 next year, maybe I will do it then.

NRA Distinguished Life Memberships

#17 Post by jnyork » Wed Nov 05, 2008 9:16 pm

Some of you may not know this. If you have reached your 65th birthday, or if you have a VA disability whatever your age, you are eligible for a Distinguished Life Membership. Life Member fees are usually $1,000.00 but you get it for $375.00 and you can pay it $25.00 quarterly. For the cost of a few beers every 3 months you can be a Life Member of the NRA. More good news, you can do it right here, right now, online!!

https://membership.nrahq.org/forms/signup.asp

Now, more than ever, we need all hands to pitch in, do yourself some good and do the cause some good.

Thanks

So, lets find a candidate or two for the board and vote ONLY for them in the next board election. Several of us wrote in JimT, Paco and John Taffin in the last election. Voting only for those you like even though you could vote for a bunch concentrates your vote on the deserving and takes votes from everyone else. If enough of us do this we don't have to take the board's nominees. So, pick somebody now, make the case now and lets start campaigning for them NOW and get them on the board. Then we'll do a couple more. Being ABLE to do this will put pressure on other board members and board members will put pressure on the "execs".

That's ambitious, but I believe you're right; that may be the only/best way to get the change started. I will try and join as soon as I get some more dough. Probaly NRA & the GOA.

I could have bought several lifetime memberships for the $ I have spent over the last 28 years. I never had the spare dough to go lifetime. Its too bad that they don't offer a reduced lifetime rate after a certain number of yearly membership. I would have to live another 33 1/3 years to to make it worth my while now. I think I will stay with yearly.

Hobie, this needs to be posted on every gunowner/shooters/hunting board on the web. Can you imagine the impact, if on inaugural day, the NRA announced that they had 50+ MILLION new members! With guns/ammo/components selling at a record pace, not all is going to "republicans". If everyone that owns a gun could cough up an anual membership, at a minimum, for the next 4 yrs. We as gunowners could acomplish what the Republican party could not. Maybe then it wouldn't be so important to buy that extra box of ammo, tommorrow. Maybe then there won't be a lead ban coming to your state.

Every time someone puts up a thread like this, there are always those who whine-in with "they're paid too much" or "yeah, but they did such-and-such so I won't support them". It happens on every gun-rights forum I've seen. These are the same s%!"heads who will whine the loudest when our rights start to disappear one at a time. I never have, and never will, understand this asinine mindset. If you won't support the only group with any real strength who stands on our side, please just keep it to yourself and don't do your best to try and influence others to sit back, save a few bucks, and wait for them to come for our rights. To me, these people are as bad or worse than those who actively work to abrogate 2+ centuries of rights that good people fought and died to establish.

It is hardly painfull to fill in a few blanks, drop the equivelent of a very cheap date and provide hours of fun for an NRA lobbyist and hours of anguish for the libs on capitol hill.

If my wealth is going to be redistributed, I may as well get it pointed in the right direction

I also was able to opt out on the magazine in hopes that the extra goes straight to the front lines.

I do believe that the next time I opt out of a cheap date, my grandson will enjoy a membership...

Hobie, I've been on at least 5 other forums, yesterday to plead with everyone to join the NRA. There is a lot of chatter on some forums about a national ammo buying day on Nov. 19. I have suggested that everyone that does this, needs to drop $25[or whatever] that same day to the NRA.

I still say that the only way we are going to survive this, is to Have the NRA announce on inaugural day, that the NRA has 50+ Million members.

Washington don't listen to much, but those kinda numbers will get their attention. The Republicans learned a hard lesson about not coming together. We, as gunowners have 2 basic beliefs, protect and defend the 2nd ammendment and constitution, and KEEP OUR GUNS!

Anything else at this point in time, is simply distracting for us!

Folks, people are spending hundreds and even thousands on guns and ammo as product is flying off the shelves around the country. While this is good temprarily for the folks in the business, it does not help secure the future of the business.

People are willing to pay even inflated prices for certain items right now to get what they want or need in case there is a shortage or ban in the future. While all this money is being thrown around, please, please save a tiny bit to join the NRA, as they will be fighting the good fight will the citizens of this country stock up.
In the next couple years, the NRA will have to fight perhaps its toughest battle since it's existance with lobbying, public relations campaign, commercials, grass roots meetings, and membership drives. While some people have complaints about them for this and that, the bottom line is that the NRA is best equipped, more than any other entity, to fight the good fight to preserve our 2nd ammendment as we enjoy it now without the restrictions.
Not only join, but encourage all you gun owning friends, and even those folks who just shoot occassionally or own a pistol for home protection. The NRA does not choose parties, and should appeal to all gun owners on both sides. I have seen the NRA praise & recognizes both Democrats and Republicans for their efforts to preserve the second ammemdment.
It will be great to see the NRA report record memberships in the months to come. Thanks for your consideration, and thanks for caring about this issue, as your membership helps me also, and other like minded folks.

Excellent post. If you can afford to buy guns and/or ammo and accessories, you can afford to join the NRA. You may not agree with them 100% of the time, but they are the most powerful voice on our behalf (heck, I don't agree with 100% of what I say! ). They are respected and feared in Washington - the best combination.

Biden is the kind of petty low-life knit-wit to hold a grudge against any organization that has opposed him - and the NRA has his entire career. Obama is a product of Chicago machine-politics; the mantra there is "destroy the opposition". Combined, with their gun-control record and already published statements, they will be the biggest threat to our gun rights ever to go to Washington. We need the membership to swell - hopefully double or triple. We need to remind the Democrats - espcially the supposedly moderate ones who ran on pro-gun records (and actually have them) that they need to exert influence on their party or they will see a repeat of the 1994 Congressional races. We WILL hold each and every one accountable for all of their votes.

Nothing motivates a politician like fear of losing their seat - followed by money. I wouldn't give a dime to a Democrat if my life depended on it - I figure the bastards already are responsible for taking more of what I earn than anyone should. However, with a rapidly growing NRA, they will take notice, and I can help work on the "fear" part of the equation.

Join - and join now. Get all your buddies to join. We need you now more than ever!

I've been wanting to upgrade to a life membership. Now looks like the time to do it.

I've always "self-tithed" a dollar for pro-gun activities (donation to GOA, JPFO, NRA, or printing pamphlets, buying books for the local library, etc.) for each two dollars spent on firearms or ammunition.

Also - remember that paying down debt and keeping 50 pounds of flour and some canned food on hand may be more helpful if it gets to the point of skipping paychecks (been there, done that).

you're far more American than 52% of the people who live here. where can we emigrate to?

can it truly be that the pendulum has swung so far from individual responsibility and liberty?

did the founding Fathers roll over in their graves only to be buggered by the politicians? sure looks that way.

Thank you Gamekeeper! The good company just keeps getting better. I joined in 2005, partly out of conviction that it is the only way to fight the gunless "utopia"of the Left, and partly to honor my Uncle John who passed that year, and was an avid NRA member.

I will re-up my membership tommorow. I've actually been meaning to, but they contact you so much to re-up that I always forget the month that I actually need to!

This is also an announcement on the main forum, but I thought it should be here as well.

Since I posted this the first time, the info is back up on the Obama site. So you can read it straight from the horses mouth.

I am going to post a banner on my website to join the NRA. (The banner is on my home page and my Link page.)

I just sent out a donation to the NRA-ILA and bought a membership for my daughter. I am seriously thinking about a Life memebership, even though it is not financialy a benefit at my age, but the NRA could use the money.

The bottom line is, we need as many members as possible right now and the NRA has someone on capitol hill 24/7. If we have the numbers, we will win!

There is no other organization dedicated to preserving our 2nd ammendment rights on capitol hill other than the NRA and we as gun owners need to get on the wagon and do our part to get involved and help.

If ya'll don't think Obama is going to ban and take away our guns than you have your head in the sand. Don't take my word for it....Read it for yourself right off of Obama's website!

This info was available until Tom Gresham started talking about it during his radio show on Sunday of Nov. 9th. During his show, the Obama team took the web page down. www.guntalk.com has a link to the page. Remember, once something is posted on the internet the servers archive it and it is still accessable.

Here is the link, check it out.....Scroll down to Law enforcement. READ IT! IT IS SCARY! >:( >:( >:(

Give it time to refresh and load up because it is coming in from the back side. This is the actual page straight off of Obama's website that was removed cause they were getting far to many hits on it and did not want to expose their plan. Read it and weep! :'(

If you don't want to go through the link, I will cut through the chase for you and post what I want you to see straight form his former page, if you want to take my word for it. If not, click the link and see for your self.

Address Gun Violence in Cities: As president, Barack Obama would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals who shouldn't have them. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent, as such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not

Please join. If you are already a member, please upgrade your membership. If you have already done that, buy a membership for a family member or friend.

I've been a member since 1982 and usually only rejoin for 3 years at a time, because it gives the organization a bit more money. As a side note to the poster who said they only let you vote after 5 years, that's not quite true. Life members can vote right away, and also anyone who joins for 5 years up front (I think it's still that way).

To vote in a new Board of Directors is one thing but until the permanent executives are purged out nothing will change. The atmosphere of appeasement will continue. If the NRA wants to see its membership swell they are going to have to grow a back bone and learn how to use it. I would like to see someone like Marion Hammer installed in the Executive Vise President post and Wayne La Pierre given a mop and bucket.

I know something that would interest me more, would be an opposition platform with WHO, WHAT, WHEN details such as who the bad guys are that need to be voted out, who the good guys are that need to be voted in, which specific actions the NRA has done wrong and what the right way to fix them is, and how many new members we need to accomplish this over the weasels currently in there.

Like the parties, there will always be a vast number of 'habit' voters who will not even be aware of the change and will blindly support us even when we correct the wrongs. None of the other orgs have a prayer of getting this big, because of those stupid members, so let's use them.

But for those of us who pay attention, you don't get our interest up without this 'hope' for 'change'. Too many who care will go elsewhere if the NRA remains for gun control.

I'm afraid that most of us don't know EXACTLY who it is that allows the conciliatory actions that the NRA pulls now and again. Clearly, why isn't apparent. I'm afraid that you need to get inside the decision making process to find out.

I want the NRA to oppose any new restrictions on firearms, ammo, reloading components or transfers of any of those. No home inspections, licensing, or registrations. I'd like to see any such schemes that are in place rolled back. I want those folks gone that stand in the way of that. NRA staff, board members, Representatives, Senators, etc.

So, are you standing for election? WHO do you want gone? WHAT do you want done? I believe that if you don't work to make your voice heard, you don't have one. The NRA is like a megaphone, it amplifies our voices. Otherwise one might as well be talking to the wall.
Sincerely,

Hobie

I don't know about you, but every year when I vote, I always first vote for the people who weren't picked by the nominating committee. Then I vote for people whom I know are opposed to the gun-grabbers. Then I always wish there were another Charlton Heston...

You need a new board to get new executives... step by step, you can't launch a rocket without fuel...

Idahoser,
I am not quite sure I understand what you are asking for or trying to in your post?

The entire purpose of the NRA is to up hold and defend the right of the 2nd ammendment.

As far as getting that information you want, it is all posted on the NRA website and they will send you any and all information you request.

Also every election big or small, they will mail you notices and information of who they support and don't support.

As far as a vote in the NRA you have to be a higher level of member. I forget the three levels, but it comes down to one thing and that is money. $2000, $3000 and $5000 gets you a vote in the NRA.

To vote in NRA elections you must be an annual member for 5 consecutive years OR a life member (or any of the levels "above" life member). So, $175 gets you a vote. I was a voting member for years (thanks to Neal Knox and an early internal revolt) before becoming a Life Member.
