If so, that's both amazing, and pathetic.... :|

London so far this year had more murders than NYC but largely by knife.

Cops all over the world are trained to see and think the worst of the people whom they 'serve'.

Let a cop over here see a ski mask, some packing tape, a few large zip ties, and a utility knife in the passenger seat during a routine traffic stop.

Ridiculous over-reaction.

I have spoken with cops over here that are paranoid about anybody even thinking about carrying a knife, even non locking sub 3" blade pocket knives that are legal EDC.
However, Joe public are just as bad, try lending someone a pocket knife ( because of course they don't have one ) you will be looked at as though you are a potential serial killer. UK knife dealers always explain the law regarding the carrying of knives but what annoys me is they state "there is no reason to carry a EDC legal knife to the pub or a football match". I know some idiots should not have anything sharper than a crayon but most sensible people should be trusted not to go berserk with a little pen knife.

I had an article on this about 11 years ago, only locally instead of over the pond. One day while walking downtown here in the Coffee Capitol I came across a display set up by the national police in the local Parque Bolivar, right under the nose of the Naked Bolivar statue. There were over 5,000 implements, ranging from cheap chinese knives of various kinds to kitchen knives to various "repurposed" tools including scissors, both complete and some with only one side of the original pair of blades. Prominent among the variety of implements were the make shift cutter/poker implements, similar to what some call "a prison shiv". Pieces of broken hacksaw blade or other scrap metal honed to an edge and or point with an improvised "handle" around one end. That could be a piece of rag, a piece of an old broomstick, an empty disposable lighter or other "repurposed" items. Unfortunately, that article seems to have disappeared in the last great hacking of the site. I'll have to see if I can find it in the Way Back Machine. And over the entire display were signs reading "We've stopped over 5,000 crimes" - yeah, right.

Okeydoke, here's the article. Yep, I'm thankful for the Way Back Machine archives. They only lost one image in the past 11 years...

Amazing article from the WayBackMachine.

'Authorities' making claims like that and confiscating things like that, to me have completely lost credibility and therefore lost any legitimacy.

I have just read that a 78 year old man in London has been arrested for stabbing one of two burglars, possibly with a screwdriver.
The poor 37 year old burglar died so I suppose they will throw the book at the vicious lethally armed old man…...

Amazing......the 'authorities' should be removed from their positions and put in jail.

Of course, the bad-guys are the 'victims' these days....

There are certainly some pathetic excuses for adult human beings in this socialist namby pamby country, the police are probably following orders rather than using common sense. I guess if the burglar was from an ethnic minority it will go down as a hate crime too.
I can only guess how distressing this must be for the 78 year-old man and his family, it's bad enough getting burgled with out being arrested twice and kept in the cells.
I'm going to bed now before I Puke.

Over here, at least in SC, the 78 year old would be the toast of the town. At least for a bit longer before the Tide Pod Generation has their way...

It is funny how when I was born into a overwhelmingly English country, knife control didn't exist but now so many different races cultures and species are living in my country we have a problem with knives.
My first shotgun required a 10 Bob (50 pence) license from a post office, now I jump through several hoops just to keep it, I wonder if the same reason applies or am I just being a Racist for having such "non politically correct" thoughts :? :? :?

GK, if what I've read is true, if you defend yourself with pretty much ANYTHING, you will be in more trouble than the violent perp.

England has fallen mightily...

Jay, as far as I know the law here hasn't changed and you can defend yourself with " like force " meaning yes you can shoot someone who is going to shoot you or stab someone who attacks you with a knife. However you are not allowed to posess a gun or knife for self defense, so unless you are hunting rabbits or chopping up carrots at the time of your attack there's not much chance of being prepared to use "like force". If you do the police will still arrest you until it is very clear that your life was in great danger. I was going to say common sense does not apply here but it's not just common sense it's a lack of decency on how the the law-abiding public are treated.
I suppose that when the law-abiding public become Sheeple / Pussies the government and police can do as they like.

My message to the American people is, DO NOT GIVE UP ONE GUN OR ONE BULLET TO APPEASE THE GRABBERS or eventually the Tide Pod eating condom snorters will take over from the snowflakes that already infest your great country.
