Wanted in CA- .38-72 WCF Reloading Dies

#1 Post by Shasta » Mon Jul 22, 2019 3:49 pm

As many of you know, I lost just about everything I owned in the Carr Fire that hit Redding, CA about a year ago. I did get most of my gun collection out safely, but lost all my reloading equipment and supplies. I have been able to replace much of it, but I am in need of a set of reloading dies for my 38-72 Winchester Model 95. I hate to see that old rifle just sitting in the safe and not getting used! I've been watching Ebay but no luck. RCBS has discontinued them. The RCBS Part Number is 56474. Anybody have a set for sale?

Do you have brass? If so, a 375 H&H or 378 Whby dies would neck size or partially size the neck. I believe a 38-55 would not work as it would not let the larger 38-72 into the die. You know yourself you could leave the cases as is and shoot em one at a time.

If all else fails......---6

Sixgun,

I plan to try reforming 9.3x74R brass as it is currently being produced by Hornady.

Ok....you do need a full length sizer......on another note, the 38-72 is nothing more than a 40-72 necked down and (going out of my head) that the 40-72 is the near same as a .405 but the factory loaded a larger bullet in the .405 to keep it from being chambered in the 40-72 so...I'm thinking brass for your cartridge can be made from .405 just by running it into a 38-72 fls but that brings us back to the same problem..you need 38-72 dies! Sure is fun being half Italian.....I'll let ya know if I come across the dies you need......

KirkD from Canada shoots your cartridge....he might have some insight.---6
