FS in OK: 94 Winchester butt stocks

#1 Post by M. M. Wright » Mon Mar 19, 2018 4:34 pm

5 94 butt stocks for sale. Let us number them 1 thru 5, left to right. 1 has a recoil pad but isn't cut. 5. has a steel butt plate. I'd like $65 each plus shipping. 2. has exceptional grain. PM me.

Are these for pre-64 or post 64 applications?
Have they been sanded?

Pre and post-64 dont really apply to butt stocks other than butt plates on them. The inletting shape change came around WWII, but I dont recall the date, so pre or post-war would be the question.

I tried one of these stocks on a rifle from 1914 and it slipped right on but left a gap on either side of the frame for about an inch. I've no idea when the change took place. A couple have plastic butt plates and a couple have steel. Mostly new old stock.

1948 seems to be the change point from early type inletting/tang shape to later, according to Precison Gun Stocks web site.

What you discovered is exactly correct, the later stocks fit earlier guns, but leave a gap beside the frame next to the hammer.

That area of the wood is somewhat fragile on earlier guns, its not unusual to see them chipped in that thin spot. Being strictly practical, its an improvement. Just taking the wood off and back on can chip that spot if one isnt very careful to avoid wiggling the stock when getting it loose.

Which stocks do you still have?

Malamute, I had to go look and 3,4 & 5 are left. Also I discovered another one not in the pic. Looks just like the rest of them though.
