Optimum Barrel Length Guidelines

Post by CowboyTutt »

From Mark and Sam After Work on YouTube. Just a general guideline but useful I thought.

Approximate Optimum Barrel Lengths

Up to 40 grains of powder
20"-24" inches

40-60 grains of powder
24"-26" inches

60-80 grains
26"-28 inches

80-100 grains
28"-30" inches

100 grains +
30" +

This is only a general guide for the center fire rifle for precision long range shooting.

Quick Load is also very useful for this sort of calculation as you can estimate velocity effects based upon different barrel lengths and powder burn rates.
